This new body of work stands in stark contrast to the polished pop sound of Dalton's previous albums as it delivers a raw energy that can only be captured in a live performance.
After complaining about how he needed to work with a producer who thought "outside the box" and someone who "got" him, Dalton met Marvin Etzioni, (Toad the Wet Sprocket, Counting Crows, Lucinda Williams...). They wrote the first song together within an hour of meeting each other, and about a year later were ready to record the entire album.
Dalton, Marvin, and the band that would come to be known as "Pecos" then went into an Eagle Rock, Ca. studio with mix engineer Don Smith (The Rolling Stones, U2, Tom Petty...) Two and a half days later they came out of the studio with this record.
"Rockola Pistola" definitely has a powerful sound that is both captivating and unrefined.
