Album Notes

DANA A. BYRD
comes from an extensive musical backround. As a youngster he got his first taste of the performing arts as a singer with, the then world famous, Newark Boys Chorus School, performing with the likes of the famous tenor George Shirley, the famous composer Gian
Carlo Mennotti, and also the former director of the Julliard School of
Music, Peter Mennen. He then went on to the Newark School of the
Performing Arts, where he landed positions in both the all City and
all State Choruses and also the all Country Chorus. He was also nominated for the coveted Kiwanis Award. At an early age, it was
apparent that Dana was headed for a career in the entertainment industry. He paid his dues by managing a Gentleman’s club; which
later turned into a neighborhood bar lounge called Mr. B’s in Newark, New Jersey. He continued paying his dues by doing a host
of other jobs in the NightClub industry such as: disc-jockey, bar-
back, host, promotions, doorman, bouncer/security, for most of
his life. He also performed in the smoke-filled lounges of NYC as most up and coming artists do. He was fortunate enough to lead a
band at a popular tourist attraction nite-spot called the Groove, for
almost 2 years, where he performed with celebrities and famous
musicians such as: Bokeem Woodbine, Matthew McCaughney,
Sally Richardson, Mos Def, Alex Mosely(formerly of Lisa Lisa and
the Cult Jam), John Pahmer(former keyboardist for Terrence Trent
Darby), Hubert Eaves Jr.(former bassist for Erika Badu), Mitch Mat-
lock(former backround singer for Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keyes),
and as a result, he has wound up here presenting this cd otherwise known as his voice.

REVIEWS

If there is a place to escape, it is inside this album

DANA BYRD: The Lighter Side Of... Is a sultry throw back to the days of ‘mood’ behind the music (curl up with the album before your girl arrives, while she is there, or after she has gone). Dana captures the essence of soul with a voice that invites you to pay attention to the lyrics while being mesmerised by Marvin Gemini Hodges and Mr Byrd on electric and live guitars. If there is a place to escape it is inside this album, for there you will also discover voices belonging to La veda Davis on 'Only Love' a true bonus track. Dana has done himself proud by producing a consistent sound that travels through the speakers from beginning to end without any unnecessary disruption, and even then the sound goes on.
