Dana Cooper Built a Road

This CD represents one of the most recent sections of freeway that Dana Cooper has built in his long career as a singer/songwriter and recording artist. It's not surprising that Dana would choose to write about Harry Truman in the song "Harry Truman Built a Road". After all, Truman was president when Dana was born and they both come from the same geographical area. The poetic lyrics take us on a trip down the symbolic road that Harry Truman built, then traveled by Dana's father, and ultimately by Dana himself. If you were to strip away the lyrics and listen only to the music as if it were a symphony you would hear strength and determination countered by longing and regret. Therein lies the true genius of Dana Cooper. Where most songwriters are doing well if they can attach simple lyrics to a simple melody, Dana's songs communicate on a complex level literally, symbolically, and musically.
