Album Notes

Dan Bárta is one of the most talented of Czech vocalists, both past and present. Possessing a very distinctive voice, Dan is an artist who manages to incorporate rock, funk, blues, jazz, and the world of musicals, into his overall style. In the early 1990's, Dan Bárta began his singing career with Alice, a rock band from Plzen. Alice released three albums in the first half of the 1990´s becoming a sensation on the burgeoning post-Velvet Revolution Czechoslovak rock world. During the mid-90's, Dan also became involved with the group Die El. Elephant, releasing an album with them. In 1994, Dan joined the funk/rap ensemble J.A.R., a long-running association that remains to the present day. Dan also became involved with musical stage work: he took on the role Jesus, then Judas, in a very successful Czech performance of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. He later accepted the role of Che in a Prague production of Evita. Back on his own, Dan founded the short-lived but popular, Sexy Dancers in 1998.

With the release of the album "Illustratosphere" in 2000, Dan Bárta embraced the jazz world and started an intimate new journey. Illustratosphere has been one of the top groups on the Czech scene throughout the '00's, with frequent touring, three studio albums and one live album to their credit.

In late 2010, Dan Bárta released a new album "Theyories" in association with long-time live collaborators the Robert Balzar Trio (also available on CD Baby).
