From an early age Jonathan knew that music would play a large role in his life. As a teenager he developed an intense interest in jazz. He spent hours listening to and learning the solos of the masters of jazz. Jonathan attended North Texas State University, renowned for its jazz studies program. Jonathan returned to the LA area to begin his career as a jazz musician. In addition to his skill as a trumpet player, Jonathan developed his vocal and compositional talents as well.
Jonathan has played with many of the great jazz professionals in the LA area. He has recently performed with Bill Holman (Big Band), Luis Munoz (Latin Jazz), Kim Richmond (Big Band), Alexandra Caselli (Jazz Pianist) and Ralph Carmichael (Gospel Big Band). He has appeared in clubs in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara. He can be heard on the recordings of Bill Holman, Luis Munoz, Alexandra Caselli, The Bill Fulton Band, Raphael DiGiorgio, and Carlos Reynosa.
Jonathan released his first solo CD in 2005 entitled "Very Life" which features him on trumpet and vocals. The CD was recorded with the Jonathan Dane Quartet including pianist Otmaro Ruiz, bassist Chris Colangelo and drummer Jason Harnell. The CD contains an eclectic collection of music that showcases Jonathan's flexibility as a jazz artist. Most of the tracks are original Jonathan Dane compositions.
