"Through the writing and recording processes...each song has been a different life lesson for me...What a journey!" ~Daniela Brando
Ever since her parents recorded her singing at the age of 4, Daniela knew this was what she was meant to do. She was so shy that she made everyone leave the room while she sang into the microphone. When she was done, she would yell, in her Sicilian dialect, to her parents that she was done.
Well, Daniela has come a long way from that…her vocal training started at age 9 and continued through high school, college and beyond; while performing all along. Later on, she began to learn playing the guitar and piano.
Hanging out with friends has always been her idea of a good time. She wrote her first song at age 9. Many of the songs she writes are even about her friends, most of them on the humorous side. Throughout school, she was known for her songs and poetry; all with her unique humor mixed with lots of truth... Inspiration comes from everywhere: a stranger in a diner, a Seinfeld episode, a Lifetime movie, heartbreak, or a dream one night.
"Writing is a gift I am so grateful for. It all just comes to me and I let it out."
After singing in both original and cover bands, Daniela decided to record a solo demo. The Shades of Blu CD was complete in 2002. While enjoying the singing and performing, she felt there was something missing in her life...Following a whole lot of soul searching and a lot of songwriting, out came a brand new Daniela and new material. Her upcoming CD OxyGenius, reflects the struggle to find one's true self in a world where reality is not "real".
"It's all about growing, learning and improving. That's what it's all about. Nobody is perfect, but we can all be our very best at that moment."
...Daniela takes pride in the fact that all her songs have a positive message. She wants to be a positive influence on a sometimes negative world...
"Some of the songs on OxyGenius may have emotions like anger, which are natural, but they also send a positive message in the end: that it's OK to express yourself…even if it is ugly."
Perhaps Daniela's strongest message is that it's OK to be you, to be real and authentic. Stay tuned for upcoming performances...

“Daniela has a very nice voice. This song [La Barca Blu] sounded a bit sad, reminded me of Sarah McLachlan with a little Gothic music twist to it.”
