Album Notes

The sonic diversity of the tracks on Mend was created through experimentation with the techniques of apartment rock and a minimalist approach to equipment. Two microphones were used for the whole of the recordings. One keyboard and a variety of acoustic instruments and percussion fill out the sound. More importantly, the melody and hooks combine with the often oddball orchestration to somehow create a cohesive pop album.

Daniel Parker, 'DP' as he's sometimes known, spins acoustic guitar based pop songs into richly layered recordings with the songwriter/producer contributing the majority of the instrumentation and vocals and a supporting cast of friends and local musicians chipping in on percussion and vocals.

Over the past decade, the music of Daniel Parker has seen incarnations from Portland, OR to Portland, Maine with recording sessions in New York, demo sessions in Florida, and club dates in Manhattan, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Chicago, Madison, L.A., and Boise.

These days there are occasional engagements at clubs and along the café circuit in Portland, Oregon with brothers Dennis and Mark Hitchcox and their project 'the Raining'. The band is currently auditioning percussionists to round out the rhythm section. The three have impeccable harmonic abilities and can bring the rock as well as the mellow to their performances.

The title track, an electro-acoustic pinwheel with the keyboards mixed too high, was recently included on the compilation: Failing Records: A Compilation of Portland Music Vol. 2., available at record stores in Portland and at www.failingrecords.com.

Daniel has several independent releases including:

One of my new all-time faves!!!!!

I am a music snob, and the fact that I can still listen to Daniel's music for over a year and still not be sick of it should really say something about this rave collection of songs. His lyrics are thought-provoking and encourage me to continue pissing off the religious right-wing government. Musically, the songs are interesting as he adds many unique layers containing catchy, poppy melodies & phrases which captivate the listener's attention. 'Thought Control' is a genuine masterpiece and is one of my all-time faves. Daniel is one of the finest songwriters Portland has to offer. Way. ~Apples
