rooted dreaming countryblues and soul by this poet, storyteller, guitar pickin' harvard drop-out, drunk-addict philosopher, dan king has been kicking around gloucester, mass. historic artist/music scene for years, leaving only to play the odd gig in new york, l.a., san francisco...a certified hermit, he doesn't go out on the road much, unless it's whoopi goldberg's birthday and he's sharing the stage with robin williams, playing for bob deniro and the mayor of new york...or the biltmore in los angeles for the indie music awards after party, or better even being filmed by the bbc with artist jon sarkin for discovery channel/bbc4 docs on art and the brain.. not very record label friendly, he's carved out a small fan base of the highly critical artist/musicians sect.. rarely doing full shows of originals, he prefers jamming with the best of the best on the spot, going over his favorite influences and songs he loves, rockin' his local pub, leaving most original material for the studio. on a good night he's unmatched, on a bad night nothing better than a bottom dweller. a rare find, diamond in the rough,, or more like a rough diamond..

King's coming into his own as an artist

Random, unsolicited thoughts while listening to 'Two Kinds of Mind'
I think Dan King has really found his groove with 'Two Kinds of Mind.' Some of the tunes are sooooo
free and easy-Summer Love (summer life blowin by like a dog-and the heat
just feels so...slooooow.)Great harmonies on that, too.
Last Sun is relaxing, dreamy and, next to 'Pretty Life,' might be my
favorite song on the album. Pretty Life is just beautiful, ethereal.
Wonderful travel, seasonal, and human imagery and wordplay on 'Clean House'
The songs have a thoughtful, pensive nature,(Title track) but there's also
plenty of jubilant celebration, e.g. Pleasant Birthday. I put Pleasant Birthday and Hilly Billy on a mixed cd that’s in my truck, so they get a lot of play, too.
His vocals have really become refined. Well done. Sometimes I hear
T. Waits, but then again, no. The style is all Dan's.
