Album Notes

JAKOB is an experimental one-off performance, made up of both instrumentals and songs. It is solo piano and voice. Jakob is the collective result of the collaboration of two friends just making music for the hell of it. The project began with the need to make a recording for all the right reasons, i.e. it was purely about the performance - having a great time recording. Jakob is an album built on the foundation of good-will from the people involved.
The album begins with the initial theme of Jakob -which continues to link the tracks. The tracks presented themselves - the cd practically wrote itself. Dan McAlister is a performance artist - who has written over 2,000 songs and pieces of music. This album is the result of the experimental time spent backstage in a theatre in Portugal recording on a Bosendorfer piano, with the lights completely dimmed - just the artist at the piano with a microphone. It was almost like being on the moon. Each performance lasted for at least 1.5 hrs sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. A total of 8 cds worth of material were recorded. The subsequent editing of these sessions revealed a clear connecting concept throughout - JAKOB.
