Dann Glenn
Symphony No. 2
(Variations on a Dream)
This work is the second in a series of six symphonies composed by Glenn. All of his symphonies have a specific subject matter, and No. 2 is drenched in exotic Asian influence, to say the least.
As a composer Glenn was deeply moved by the great Charles Ives. This becomes apparent when listening to Glenn's music, as he has a penchant for using subtle dissonance, thereby moving out of harmonically "safe" zones. Ultimately this results in breathtakingly beautiful sonic textures, that touch body, mind and spirit.
Though Dann Glenn is a renowned jazz/rock guitarist not to mention a published novelist, (Almost A Proverb/For Reasons Still Obscure) his modern orchestral music is quite unique and stands alone on its own merit. Some of Glenn's symphonies are tonal while others are atonal, but one thing they all have in common is their spacial, lush beauty.
