Album Notes

The curtain goes up the lights go on and onto the stage steps the next acoustic prophet of Rock and Soul...Dann Russo pours rock, blues, country, gospel and every other type of real down-home music into his performance as sweat pours from his brow. He does not simply strum - he beats his guitar, wrenching emotion out of it. He does not simply sing - he energizes crowds with his sometimes gruff, sometimes gravelly, sometimes sweet voice.

Now based in Boston, Dann, both solo and with The Whisky, has become a regular in and around Boston and New York...

Dann Russo's music reveals very personal experiences and emotions.

Dann Russo EP This singer/songwriter is originally from New York and now living in Boston, Massachusetts. All words and music are by Dann Russo except for song 2 "Bittersweet Love" that was a joint effort on the lyrics. Dann Russo is extremely talented in his songwriting and lyrics. Song 2 pulls at my heart-strings. I can relate to the lyric phrase, "And I took my leave, my heart upon my sleeve. And I know I'll see how better off I'll be without her." His influences are many: Dave Matthews, Counting Crows, Bob Dylan, and more. Like Counting Crows' albums, Dann Russo's music reveals very personal experiences and emotions. Having a generous roster of original songs that this EP only hints at, Dann Russo would be an excellent candidate for a big label record deal. The songs on this EP are accompanied by only acoustic guitar. One wonders what he could do with the addition of the full musical resources at the disposal of a big label or a large indie. A good drummer would really make it rock!

Taking cues from a young, hungry Bob Dylan, Dann Russo is a promising singer-son

Hearings (Metronome Magazine) Metronome Magazine (Oct. issue) Armed with only an acoustic guitar and his voice, musician Dann Russo delivers an energetic four-song offering brimming with uplifting emotion. His guitar playing is fiery and statically charged while he maintains a fine range of vocal work throughout. If you were to enter a room where Russo was performing, he would surely gain your attention with his fiercely powerful delivery. Penning three of the disc's tracks and co-penning the fourth with Mark Fornatale, Russo also displays his capable songwriting prowess. Taking cues from a young, hungry Bob Dylan during his days in the Village, Dann Russo is a promising singer-songwriter that exhibits what it takes to make it big in the world of music. Good stuff!

Simply put, this little EP rocked my world. Soulful, sexy, and full of well-intended (read: NOT EMO) angst. Add a backing band, and I smell a up-and-coming artist! Bonus: he's cute too! If this Dann Russo guy has a girfriend or wife or similar, she better watch out!
