Album Notes

Keyboard wiz Danny Brill (piano, organ, and synths) has been heavily influenced by such pioneering progressive rock bands as Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, and Gentle Giant to name a few. He even recruited one of his favorite prog rock musicians, Tony Levin (from King Crimson and Peter Gabriel's band) to play on several tracks But he has managed to find his own updated prog rock sound on this stunning debut solo CD. Over 3 years in the making, this is a serious piece of work which deserves a high end sound system to appreciate the amazing detail and depth of the recording (Mixed by David Hentschel, the Grammy award winning engineer who has done five Genesis albums and five Elton John albums, among others.)

For a complete bio of Danny Brill, please visit his website at www.dannybrill.com. Here's some info from Danny on some of the other musicians who played on his CD, Better Late Than Never:

Tony Levin (bass guitar, Chapman stick) is best known both as a member of Peter Gabriel's band and as a former member of King Crimson. He also has an extensive discography as a session player that goes back many years, as well as several solo CD's. When not touring with his own group, The Tony Levin Band, he's playing with such interesting bands as Liquid Tension Experiment.

Ian Lloyd (vocals) was the lead singer for the band Stories, and has an extensive resume of studio work, recording backing vocal parts on many hits by Foreigner, as well as songs by Billy Joel, and Yes. He also has recorded several solo CD's

Nick Moroch (electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin) is a 'first call' session player who has recorded with more artists than I could possibly list here--his discography would be in the hundreds of records, dating back to Lenny White's group which Nick joined when still a teenager. He currently plays guitar as a member of David Sanborn's band.

Michael Sciotto (drums, vocals) is involved in many recording projects as a studio musician. He also put out a CD of his own group Hemisphere, and has recently been doing some live dates playing drums with Jefferson Starship.

David Keyes (electric and acoustic bass) was formally a member of the band Renaissance. (You can check out his bass playing on the CD In the Land of the Rising Sun, which was recorded live in Japan.) More recently he has recorded and toured with Willie De Ville's band.

Progressive Rock is Alive and Well
author: Dexter Harpwell

Keyboard player and writer Danny Brill has managed to come up with a very original progressive rock record, reminiscent of the great prog rock bands of the early 70’s, yet with a definite sound of it’s own. Ex-Crimson member Tony Levin plays bass and Chapman stick on two tracks, “Bakes Dozen and “Prelude/Demented” giving these two in particular a very Crimson-ish sound. Everyone on this record has serious chops! (Brill is classically trained.) Nick Moroch’s guitar work is out of this world, and Ian Lloyd shows great versatility with his very strong voice. Everything about this record, from the great musicianship down to the very cool original artwork, can be summarized with one word: Quality. Obviously, a lot of time and effort went into the production! All in all, this is one of the best records I’ve heard in a long time - Danny Brill’s a very talented composer and player. Most of it is not really mainstream stuff, but anyone who’s into the prog rock genre will love it. One warning: this CD is highly addictive, and definitely grows on you. If you listen to it a few times all the way through, you are at high risk of finding a few tracks you could get hooked on forever.
