Album Notes

Danny, now 18 years old, started playing guitar at the age of 9. He is a student of slack key master and teacher Ozzie Kotani, who has also taught Danny the styling of his own teacher, the legendary Sonny Chillingworth. Danny has also learned much from the music of Ledward Ka‘apana, Raymond Kane, “Atta” Issacs and Gabby Pahinui.

Danny has played at slack key festivals in Hawai‘i since the age of 10. He has also played at the Honolulu Academy of Arts auditorium as Ozzie\'s guest.

In December 2004, Danny had the honor of playing Hawaiian slack key music on National Public Radio’s classical music program \"From The Top\".

In November, 2006 Danny was invited to play at the Neil Blaisdell Center Concert Hall in Garrison Keillor’s nationwide program \"A Prairie Home Companion\".

The recordings on this CD, done when Danny was at the young age of 17, have clearly captured the essence of kiho‘alu music. His style continues to evolve with echoes of those who have influenced him, as his own more complex voice emerges, in this, his second CD.

The music on this all-instrumental CD is soothing and heart-felt. We hope you enjoy this very Nahenahe album.

Danny is a real talent. After listening to his first two CD's it is pretty clear that he is next in the line of slack key masters that goes from Gabby to Sonny and then to Ozzie.
