Bullfrog Music
"His music is as natural as a cat's innate reaction to always land on its feet. Anyone working on an album would benefit from listening to this album. I definitely recommend you look out for this gentleman on his way up."
Soundproof Magazine
Danny Handes is a singer songwriter from Toronto, Canada. The debut album "The Asterisk Eye" is the result of months of recording sessions and writing.
After playing hundereds of shows in other bands in the past, the itch to make a more intimate album was ready to be scratched. The idea for the album was to make a simple group of songs using basic instrumentation and minimal percussion. Although not every song on "The Asterisk Eye" sticks to this formula, the bare essentials idea was the theme throughout the recording process.
All sounds except for the drums on "Little Dog" were performed by Danny Handes. Not having access to a drum set, the percussion mainly consists of boxes, brushes, shakers, tambourines, and even knitting needles.
The album contains everything from hard country to psychedelic instrumentals. It also contains a version of the seldom heard Ramones track "Questioningly", complete with Beach Boys style harmonies. "Hearts Again" features a pulsating beat and driving acoustic guitars set to lyrics inspired by a real life letter read on the evening news by a person trying to locate a missing loved one.
Definitely an album meant to be heard on headphones, Danny Handes "The Asterisk Eye" is sure to please anyone who craves melody and sonic sound rolled into one.

Creativity and Ingenuity in Full Swing
author: Jennifer
Creativity and ingenuity are alive and well with Danny Handes. Nowhere is that more evident than in his album, 'The Asterisk Eye.' While other artists are busy trying to churn out music that is less than desirable simply to get their name out there as fast as possible, it's obvious Danny Handes wants to make sure he puts out the best music possible for listeners and people who spend money on the release. Not only for their sake, but also for the sake of his musical integrity. What I am impressed with is the fact all songs would be able to stand on their own, but in order to get the whole picture / concept you need to listen to the album from start to finish. Albums with such a focus on the bigger picture are few and far between these days, so be sure to pick up a copy of this gem and give it a listen.

psychedelic folk pop awesomeness.
author: dankitti
Thoroughly enjoyable slice of psychedelic rock-pop-folk from Canada's Danny Handes. The idea is supposed to be that this is what a psychedelic Buddy Holly would have sounded like and that's pretty much it. There are influences of the 60s San Francisco bands as well as subtle influences of Syd Barrett. Once or twice there is a hint of Revolver or Rubber Soul era Beatles. Let It Out is an AM pop hit about to happen, right after Little Willy finally went home. Bonus points for "a version of the seldom heard Ramones track "Questioningly", complete with Beach Boys style harmonies." Ramones meets Beach Boys, it's a hit!! Of course the overall effect is completely original. Handes is a talented singer-songwriter with a highly enjoyable 14-track CD. Reccomended if you like relaxed, melodic, folkish songs. Except for Little Dog, which ROCKS! And my kitty Spot jumped into my lap and meowed so she likes it, too.
