SHAKE Magazine Jess Marich Spring 08 vol 6 number 1 DANNY LEE RAMSEY- Elevator Serenade/The Other Side Little Hollywood With his new album, Nashville studio Wizard Danny Ramsey has given Listeners an overflowing cornucopia of his considerable talents. Few people know how to use the recording studio as a creative canvas for artistic expression better then this man.Small wonder he's been asked to make music for motion pictures. His ongoing association with HBO has resulted in mountains of instrumental music coming out of his Little Hollywood Studio performed almost entirely by Danny. He plays many instruments with guitar being his strong suit. When you add to that his technical prowess at the mixing board you have a music making monster. Ramsey has become a mad scientist conjuring up so much fascinating material it's mind boggling. And the quality level remains sky high. This new two-disc set is the result of Ramseys equal desire to do two different albums. The first disc." Elevator Serenade" is a sweet collection of jazzy melodic explorations.CD Baby writes; "Bluesy Jazz, recommended for those who like Wes Montgomery and Carlos Santana." Thats high praise and completely true. The second disc is the renegade,push-the-envelope hodge-poge collection of all sorts of different kinds of musicial landscapes. Danny calls it"The Other Side"He was toying with calling it"Pigeon -Hole Tshis" It's described as cinematic epics with electronica twists and new age turns and occasional Cirque De Solei shred. All told it appears as though there is no musical genre that Ramsey hasn't got some kind of grip on. There's something here for everyone. JESS MARICH SHAKE MAGAZINE SPRING 08

Man, I've been listening to your cd's for many days now...I do a lot of driving and I've just kept it in the cd player for like days and days...both sides front and back inside and out..so let me say this,my man.. there is probably no one who has listened to this cd more then I; and I will say this...YOUR PRETTY AMAZING... as not only a guitarist but also a writer, arranger, and producer... these cds were very enjoyable to listen to..I like the soundscapes and I really like that your extending the possibilites..these songs don't all sound the same, but they don't seem contrived...The Other Side? Wow! Man, you got a lotta nice things going on.. and you utilized good talent to contribute to the sound..You've got some modern mexican/spanish things that are REALLY outstanding, I was listening to YES on acid! Very good synths...great balance...just a great job. K-man

author: NASHVILLE MUSIC GUIDE
Danny lee Ramsey's new disc is a double record with a double name. The first disc is Elevator Serenade and the other one is called, well The Other Side. They come together in one big package of sound from one of Nashvills most appreciated blues personalities. Danny is well known around town as a blues man, having toured Europe as a member of the Nammy nominated Max Johs Band a while back;as well as for being the recording engineer for a number of blues acts. He's even got history with Clapton and The Allmans. But Danny's latest thing is his new disc. As a sideman in all kinds of acts over a thirty-something year career, he'd never done a record of his own,but it's done now. Y'all need to check it out. Blues? Well, no. But Danny Lee Ramsey, the who's recorded so many fine Nashville Bluesers(recently he's done Miranda Louise, Little Johnny Kantreed, and my favotite band, Delicious Blues Stew...) at his Little Hollywood Studio; the guy who's played on a zillion blues gigs; and nearly as many cuts, has got a lotta blues in everything he does. Both records sre instrumental discs; and they deliver the emotional punch required of such efforts.Elevator Serenade is more of a jazz record, but I love the smoky bluesyness, augmented by the sax of the ever soulfull Richard Griffin, on the Grooving "She Said Yeah". "Lost Libido" has a Leon Russell at last call vibe, plus a title that works for the tiny little tune.Call it jazz but as my favorite girlfriend (Anne) says."I don't like jazz, but I like this, because it moves." Couldn't have said it better myself babe. Now shake it a little bit for the ole man...Did Hendrix pop otta the grave, hang out with Steve Vai, and then go to the orient to play live in a dance club? Thats what I hear when I close my eyes and listen to the first two cuts of "The Other Side"; which are called"In The Fine Print" and "Bring On The Bull" On the same disc,"What Next" has a lonesome acoustic blues vibe, thats not quite Delta, but not quite Old West-cool-cowboy-around-the-campfire music either."High Ro Cliffs" sounds to me like what John Lee Hooker would have made if he were 24 and living in 2008 Amsterdam. I also really dig the Rock Williams sax-fueled "I Hate To Be The One" a jumping modern R&B thing. The whole 2-disc collection is blues for the whole world, as the sounds seem to travel everywhere."I'm more of a rock-blues guy playing jazz, I just gotta bent them strings! laughs Danny." But I am so excited to finally be doing my own recording." I got to say that old Bayou here can guarantee that any Nashville blues fan(probably already a friend or fan of Danny Ramsey's....)will enjoy this grooving, string bending, instrumental record. Check out the tunes at Ramsey's web addresses;myspace.com and cdbaby.com Shannon Williford
