The Darcys are four boys who moved east, read books and found themselves arguing into the night over Broken Social Scene and Steely Dan. Then comes: Indie rock soaked in Reverb, Beer, Fist Pumps, Hand Claps, Self-Deprecation and Harmony.
The Darcys are a Toronto band by way of Halifax, or a Halifax band by way of Toronto, depending on what time of the year you are asking. Jason Couse, Wesley Marskell, Dave Hurlow and Kirby Best all met during their respective tenures at the University of King's College. This year, when not studying obscure philosophy, they turned their obscurantist tendencies to their shared loves of noise, melody and alcohol (and the way this trio plays out in a live setting).
The Darcys recorded their first ep "You, Me and the Light" in a hot basement at the start of the summer of 2006. "You, Me and the Light" is slowly making its merry way across Canada. Summer 2006 is kicked off with a Release Party for the record at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto.
After a brief hiatus, a short autumn tour is executed, spanning sleepy university towns and ending with a Saturday night at Neutral in Toronto. After a long stint of regrouping and writing new material, they premiere some new songs among the old at Holy Joe's in December to a receptive audience that exceeds the fire code for the bar. The morning of this show, they also give a live interview and perform three tracks live at studio three in the basement of CIUT (U of T community radio). Since then, the Darcys have been hard at work creating strange, provocative sounds that some folks will be swinging their hips to in the future.
The Boys packed up their gear and headed to Waterloo Regional Children's Museum to camp out and make their next record. This time they were allowed a luxurious two weeks to fill out their sound with violins, horns and endless overdubs. The record which came out of those weeks was entitled Endless Water. It was given laudatory reviews in several Canadian Publications including Exclaim Magazine. It also charted on several College Radio Stations including a #2 spot on CIUT (Toronto).
