"Catchy Melody" was originally written as an a capella number for the CD relase show of Darcy's first LP, The Brighterside. The band sang the song wearing sweaters and thick-rimmed glasses. Later in the show, Darcy played the song with the whole band, almost like the punch line to an elaborate joke. The song, however, was an unexpected smash with the audience, and soon there was a clamour for Darcy to record it.

Darcy recorded the song in the fall of 2008, and made a video for it in the summer 2009. Plans to put it on a future album are tentative. The "Catchy Melody" video became Darcy's most-watched video of all time on YouTube after just 2 days.
