notes
Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Darin Bennett has been performing in clubs since he was a teenager. He was fortunate enough to be continuously snuck into clubs by older, seasoned musicians who often brought him on stage to play. He spent most of his teenage years and early twenties sitting in with or opening for artists such as Chuck E. Weiss, JJ Holiday, Joe Sublett, and a long list of major blues and rock artists ranging from Hubert Sumlin to Bruce Springsteen to Whiskeytown. After years of watching and learning from his heroes, he has discovered his own voice and style.
He wrote, produced, and performed the score for the film Small Change (MNC Productions) and has had several songs featured on television for Imagine/Disney/WB and ABC. In addition, he collaborated on a Delta-blues side project with Michelle Shocked.
Currently, he is continuing to perform in clubs around Los Angeles and touring everywhere possible. He has just released his debut album as a solo artist entitled '20 Scarlet Monkeys'.

swamp gravel beauty
author: molly rieflerI took a chance on Mr. Darin Bennett and bought the CD. Not one song has disappointed! Bennett's music is fresh and original with tribute in style to blues legends. I definately look forward to the next release from this soul inspiring talent!
I love it
author: Bettina / GermanyThank you Darin, for this great piece of music. I hear a lot of Chris Whitley's influence in it. Looking forward to hearing more of your stuff!
Something Old, Something New
author: Dane MarksI bought this CD after hearing it playing at a club in New York. I'm a DJ myself and I've been playing it non-stop. This is as raw as it gets and honest as all hell. My only complaint is that Darin does not yet have more music to purchase, although I've seen on the web that there are some bootlegs available that he is more than cool with people sharing. Excellent debut from a more than promising artist in every sense of the word. Check out his paitings on his website. They tell the story of his music.
Ready to be famous
author: Harry J BuysBefore writing this, I’ve been listening more than 7 times to this cd. To me, this deserves a throne among the most thrilling records I heard in 2006. The music reminds me of a 1000 other things I love, but mister Bennett is cooking it all in his own precious way.
Genius!
author: Melora VillalobosI just heard about Darin from a friend and I checked him out on Myspace and his main website. All I can say is, "Unreal". His music is unlike any I've heard but you can feel the influences of old blues and people like Tom Waits, Jimi Hendrix, early Joe Cocker, and so many others. A friend of mine wants to burn it and I'm making him buy a copy of his own! His video on Myspace is really cool, too.

Why Darin is not famous is beyond me. This guy is amazing. This is the best CD I have ever bought on-line and there is no need for me to buy another for quite some time. I hope he's in London sooner rather than later.
chris whitley lite
author: lance greenthis guy owes it all to chris whitley- don't know if i saw chris's name in the liner notes, but if not, it definitely belongs there. darin owes chris a huge debt of gratitude!
Future of the Blues
author: Doro S.Hello all, i buy this cd and it's a wonderful music. New and experimentally, good voice (i mean like Axel Rose from Guns and roses:-)) handmade. I know Darin from Myspace.com. He is a very cute musician. Doro from Germany
Awesome!
author: AnimaProbably this Darin Bennett's '20 Scarlet Monkeys' is the best CD I've heard these 2,3years. His sound has got a wonderful combination of nostalgy and originality, delicacy and confidence, sweetness and weirdness. It strikes the right chord and I can listen to this album all day long.
Kicks 5 kinds of ass.
author: jroThis album is scratchy, weird, melodic, soulful, unpredictable, and even tribal at times. Darin is the perfect mix of Robert Johnson, Chris Whitley , and Tom Waits...throw in the horns and you also have a little Morphine drippin' to make a voice all his own on this record. His prose is like nothing I've heard and his guitar playing has super soul. These are great songs on this album...well put toghether, really great for listening to after dark. The production is lo-fi and it works very well, with all the little things happening. And the artwork is amazing. 5 Stars all the way up high.-jro
Great!
author: Luke MilesThe CD was in perfect condition, and Darin has made some of the best music i've heard, just on this album. A truly awesome buy.
A taste of the old but, feels so new and refreshing.
author: BevI heard Darin on myspace and immediately added his music and a link to his page from my personal myspace page. This cd is one I can leave on and listen through to the end. I find something new each time I listen to it. Great bluesy, Lousisia feel with some rock and alternative thrown in for good measure. I can't pick a favorite cut, I love all of them for different reasons. What a great find!
Wow!
author: Rebecca from LondonWords won't do this CD justice, but I must try to give this artist some well deserved praise...As I listened to the best sound I have ever heard, I was in awe of Darin's limitless genius and spirit, which were obvious in every note. Wow! Each song offers a new soulful expression with multi-level lyrics that continue to reveal new clues. Brilliant! One of the few CDs that I have loved every song. Tiffany and Darin are ones to watch.
Creative lyrics, guitar genius, full of soul!
author: Bill and JanWe found this CD to be an unusual mix of solo guitar and soulful singing. The coronet added a mournful sound at the end of The Death Bell. Never tire of listening to all of the songs. Our favorite is Twenty Scarlet Monkeys.
dig
author: Diggy SpadesThis is the kind of cd you can have on repeat all day and not get bored. The best music purchase i've made this year
Inspired and different than anything else!
author: Something DifferentYou think you're listening to blues, then the rocking guitar starts up, then it mellows back down to something soulful. It's a roller coaster ride of rhythm and I love it! Hits all the sounds and has the lyrics to truly keep your ear perked and your body moving.
Awesome Music!
author: Lacey CarsonWhile really diverse, this CD creates a cohesive world of its own. It's sexy, swampy, and genuinely beautiful at the same time.

I literally couldn't wait for an album from Darin to be available. I've seen him perform at least ten times and this album captures the magic that he creates on stage. I can't wait to see him live again. His music stays with me. It's unexplainable. It deserves to be heard again and again.

I just got this CD and it is unbelieveable. The kind of record you can listen to all day and still love it. I already can't wait for the next one. I think Darin Bennett is an amazing musician who will easily become one of the greatest music legends of our time. Oh and my mom loves it too.

I heard about Darin from a friend and checked him out on Myspace. I'd been waiting for this CD to come out for quite a while and now I have it and love it. I can only describe this music as a cross between that of Chris Whitley, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, and Tom Waits, although it really stands on its own as unique. In a word... Awesome.
An inspired, truly unique blend of blues, soul, rock & alternative music!
author: LauriceDarin Bennett gives this bubble gum pop obsessed music industry a much needed shot in the arm with this inspired blend of blues, rock & alternative music. His voice is soulful, rich and powerful. Lyrically it’s hard to find artists who write with such intensity in this day and age. His sound, though uniquely his own, is reminiscent of great blues artists and at the same time feels like the best of classic rock and rhythm and blues. 20 Scarlet Monkeys takes this reviewer back to a time in music history where talent and skill actually counted.
Makes your soul want to dance!
author: Heather Bianchi20 Scarlet Monkeys is the best cd I have heard in this genre since Mark Sandman! It takes a hold of your heart and soul and makes it just want to explode! The raw emotion that it brings out in you is amazing! Can't pick one as my favorite cause they are all equally tantalizing!

This guy's unreal. I originally heard his music on Myspace.com and ordered a copy the second I heard that it was on sale. His music is refreshingly new, while remaining true to his influences. I love it! Come to New York.
