**PAUL: Former member of Vixtrola (Geffen), and FAT (BMG). Cool British accent. Wrote end-title song in "Darkness Falls". Vegetarian. Guiness drinker. Always wears black. Funny as hell.

**SKYE: Owns a record player, though it's not a Victrola, and, like every girl, keeps her fat jeans handy. Has lost her Detroit accent. First solo song release used for the commercials for "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Search". Loves ostrich tartare. Jack Daniels drinker. Multiple dog owner. Wishes she had the tape recorder on when they were on Indie 103.1 FM in Los Angeles. Pretty damn witty.

"Describing the many supple layers of Dark Blue World's EP The Harratt Sessions seems a task along the lines of documenting a chronology of Michael Jackson's plastic surgeries. The two members, who met in Los Angeles, share a certain love for a bit of darkness in life, and this release emerges as prime evidence. To refer to the duo's work as "dark pop" surely does not give it the credit it deserves; its nostalgia for the vocals of bands like Veruca Salt and The Murmurs, paired with the deep dusky guitar of early Smashing Pumpkins landing satisfyingly in the midst of transitory, sometimes poppy, sometimes junglist drumbeats, creates a shadowy realm with only Skye's vocal light shining through.

Skye Marsden, vocalist and cello player, is every bit as gorgeous as her voice but gives off that attractive danger vibe a black widow employs to win over her prey. Sensual and brazen, with a honeyed subterranean sound, she maneuvers easily from hard to soft, finding neither the victor. Her ethereal dark angel quality, layered and sometimes hazy echoing vocals, and ability to truly tear it up rocking out make for a singer most bands could only wish for.

Paul Andrews - who has worked with musicians from Nine Inch Nails, and it shows - matches Skye's dedication to creating a sound more rock than pop. Indivisible bed-mates, minor key chords and distorted cloudy guitars, appear regularly on the album...they have the potential for remarkable uniquity when well-manipulated, as Andrews does with blasting electronic punch and a falling, reverberating accent. In the future, I'd like to see Andrews maintain the sonic wow that makes the duo impressive to begin with.

Likewise, I feel as though this band would be a great live experience. To hear the creeping obscured electronica of "Sin Coming In" explode live would be like a snake's first hour in Eden. This formidable pair has a transparent innocence and an even more evident edge. Definitely worth checking out, live or otherwise." ~ Indie-Music

  • Dark, accessible, hard-hitting POP

    If you enjoyed the latest The Birthday Massacre album "Violet", you'll love this debut EP by Dark Blue World. Full of crunchy, grinding guitars combined with synth textures and dance beats, and a stunningly powerful female vocalist to top it all off, this EP will grab your attention quickly. Dark Blue World is made up of Skye Marsden and Paul Andrews, and this, their debut, was released on their own label in 2004. The music is uniformly dark, while also being very pop accessible. Easily the highlight of the EP is saved for the last track, as "Shadow In My Heart" is a slow, sentimental ballad that evokes memories of some of the best ballads of the 50's, but with modern songwriting and production. Both "Shine" and "Ordinary Day" are more modern rock songs with occasional electronic twists, but are still very pop-friendly. "Undone" and "Flypaper" are also very solid songs, with the rock/electronic hybrid sound still very effectively melded into a pop core. While very different from the normal New Wave/Synthpop fare I usually cover, Dark Blue World has crafted a very interesting sound here. Worth checking out!

    This is a wonderful album from a superb band. Skye's vocals across the Harratt sessions can't fail to impress and the sheer class behind the lyrics she has written is astounding. The whole thing has everything it takes nowadays to succeed within the industry. whether they will depends on promotion and publicity, but fingers crossed this will get them heard all over the world. my fave track on the album even though i love them all would be Shadow In My Heart just because it is vocally angellic and you can quite easily fall in love with her just by listening to it. overall a fantastic outing by a great band. rock on skye and paul

    This CD combines electronica and rock to make this amazing blend. I've been a Skye Marsden fan since her Pieces of Skye days, so I had to have this album. It's dark and in your face, without being too obvious. My faves are "Shine", "Sin Coming In" and "Shadow in my Heart".

    Atop our list of eternal beauty and Insatiable talent is none other than Skye Marsden. Evidently the band is in the name of the month club but no matter what name they go by the music is refreshingly dark and full of contradictions. This is not Britney pop or Avril Rock... this is proof that beauty can be the beast and that music still comes from the heart
