CD Review by the Lafayette Journal & Courier
author: Tim Brouk
Another Indianapolis band, Dark House Sweet, is celebrating a new self-titled CD as well. The trio is also celebrating the fact that longtime John Mellencamp drummer Kenny Aronoff plays on all 11 tracks of the album. The trio are familiar faces at downtown Lafayette's Luxie's Pub-N-Grub. The CD pumps an up-tempo 1990s pop-rock sound that would have been very radio friendly several years ago. Since his Mellencamp days, Aronoff has had a huge career as a studio musician for Ricky Martin, Garth Brooks and Rod Stewart, among many others. The drummer gives the record a solid punch and helps keep things from dragging or getting monotonous. For a trio, Dark House Sweet's sound is very full on disc. Keyboard fills on "Come Down" give the track a little more oomph, and the busy violin helps make "Sunday" stand out. There also are a lot of studio tricks that many central Indiana independent bands would not think of using.
