Darla has been singing since she was old enough to produce a note. Beginning with singing in church and grade school choruses and continuing for the next 30 years resulting in her newest album of contemporary Christian songs which she wrote and performs. She also has been playing the flute since age nine and majored in it in college where she also picked up skills on the saxophone.
Darla was born and raised in Connellsville, Pa. (approx. 45 miles SE of Pittsburgh). She attended college at Alderson-Broaddus in Philippi, WV and earned a B.A. in Music/Music Education. After graduating she taught elementary school for nine years (general music, band, choir and first grade). After she and Jody married and had a son, Darla became a full-time mom who started focusing more on her songwriting and spiritual walk with God. These two things culminated in her vision to have a concert ministry as far and wide as the Lord will allow her to go. Although not teaching during the day, Darla teaches a night class part-time at Alvin Community College (English as a Second Language).
Darla has been a part of almost every musical opportunity to ever come her way including but not limited to: (High School) Marching and Symphonic Bands, Flute Choir, nine Broadway-style musicals, talent shows and contests; (College) Concert Band, Chapel Choir, Jazz Band (sax); (Post-college) guest soloist in churches and channel 4 (local television), flutist with Brazosport Orchestra, Saxophonist with Billie Ledbetter Orchestra, (Houston, TX) and hired as one of the staff singers at the Lake Theater (a Branson-style Opry show in Lake Jackson TX). She performed there every weekend for 4 years and since Jody is the Lakes' steel guitarist, this is where they met. Jody and Darla's act there has grown to include creating and performing comedy skits and duets together, becoming a crowd favorite.
Being raised in church in her formative years, Darla has always felt the hand of God working in her life. Despite backsliding at times, she has always returned to His unconditional love. She believes He has a divine plan for everyone's life if they will get quiet and obedient enough to find out what it is.
Darla is a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and recently had the opportunity to sing in a Mass Choir accompanying well-known Christian singer Alvin Slaughter. To round out her busy life, Darla is a fitness enthusiast who works out four days per week doing weightlifting, jogging and biking.
Darla's songwriting has evolved over the past 10 years from a "traditional country" style to the contemporary Christian on her current album. Her main influences are Shania Twain and Steven Curtis Chapman which shows up in her eclectic mix of songs ranging in style from pop and rock to blues and ballads. Enjoy and be blessed!

Loved the words of each song.
author: Nellie Frey
This cd is wonderful not only for the youth but for all ages .
There are some songs on this cd who make you stop and think and ponder over the words then there are others that make you cry. I recommend this for all ages .this artist will be in our prayers that God will keep using her in the way she has been going and raise her up to encourage many more people and teach the word through her songs.
