Album Notes

Darlene has lived the life of a troubadour since 1990. Seeking from the source has given Darlene a different sense of folk roots, seasoned with styles ranging from Blues, Jazz, Gipsy, First-Nations and roots of American Folk music.

Call it Gipsy Folk.

* Widely multitalented, Darlene is adept at every known stage skill except, perhaps, ventriloquism. She is apt to play one tune on a child’s toy accordion and, on the next, accompany herself with a didgeridoo.

A seasoned performer with many miles traveled along her minstrel road, along the way Darlene has expanded her vocal range and skills to encompass just about any kind of keening or chanting or ululation one may be aware of, from operatic soprano to mariachi to Finnish yoiking to throat singing to yodeling or even barking like a dog.

Her keen guitar style keeps pace with her singing, providing skilled
accompaniment in numerous musical styles and rhythms.
Darlene’s songwriting is crisp, whimsical and adventurous in its scope and breadth, leading the listener on an exciting musical adventure.

Recording on Earthwork Music and Road Dog Divas Music, Darlene has several cd albums to her credit.

* by Phil Wintermute (Eldery Instruments)

About this Album

Recorded LIVE @ 2007 Earthwork Harvest Gathering. Unlike previous albums, this is solo, with the exception of guest Seth Bernard (guitar) on Chicken with the Red Dress On, and guest backing vocals on Happy New Year.

solo LIVE is sweet and quirky. Telling stories of sad pirates, chickens, 1st loves, cookies and more, it's a blend of acapella and guitar accompaniment. The last 2 tracks are 'field recordings': a raucous version of gipsy tune Seraphim (from the NAMA Awards Show in AR), and a kitchen version of More More More.

This is Darlenes' 1st recording for Earthwork Music; The Earthwork Music collective believes in the intrinsic and historical power of music to raise both community and self-awareness and serves to facilitate and encourage original music in the state of Michigan and beyond.
