Darnell Levine is a member of a small community of Nashville artists who, though classified as “urban†for convenience’s sake, are reworking the soul music genre to satisfy the creative impulses of a generation brought up in a multi-culti world. Levine’s sound is more akin to postmodern jazz-pop, while his voice maintains his soul -- music that prefers eclecticism to dogma. Journal Entries EP offers listeners a taste of jazz and pop through the artistry of a soulful singer/songwriter. The intimate, six-song EP (on which Levine handles piano and vocals with co-producer Jerry Navarro on upright bass) is a precursor to a 2009 full-length release he’s calls "The Journal". I am loving this cd! When Birds Split is a beautifully touching song. Some won't get it, but it will definitely resonate with those who can relate to the lyrics. I patiently await the full length release next year.
