Album Notes

Darowyn is not my real name. In fact it’s not anybody’s real name, not at the moment anyhow. It came about as the result of a computer programme I wrote to create the names for heroic characters in adventures. I like the coincidence of creating a possible name, with a fortunate meaning, which has never belonged to anyone else, so I took the name as my alias. Darowyn could almost be a Welsh name, and if it was, it would mean “White Oak”

I grew up on the edge of an oak wood, making things from wood is a favourite pastime, and white oak is an excellent boatbuilding timber. I like that.

So I am Darowyn.

I first used the name to describe a character who sometimes appears in my dreams. He is, or was, a wandering bard, armourer and swordsmith from around the 6th Century. Maybe these dreams are reincarnation memories– I can certainly make pretty authentic dark age helmets.

Maybe I was Darowyn too.

If you were to ask me what I do, I'd probably say I make things.

I make guitars, motorbikes, boats, furniture, songs and gardens.

I make replica dark age armour.

I make young people into employable adults.

I make love; I make merry; I make plans; I make computers do what I want; I make people laugh.

I make things.

I hope you like my songs. I have a very special reason why I am putting them out now. You might be able to find out why if you look on my website
www.darowyn.co.uk,
or you might want to subscribe to the blog on my Myspace site, and keep up with what I'm doing.
