Review #1 - Jessica Cochran Darrin Drda's Theory of Everything is a local folk rock act with sometimes whimsical, often facetious lyrics and an eclectic range of instruments. Most of the songs on this album are pretty upbeat and amusing. There is a great multitude of instruments used: guitar, bass, drums, percussion, flute, trumpet, French horn, melodion, keyboards and violin to name a few. All the musicians in this band are very talented and the songs all come together and flow really well. Probably my favorite part of Darrin Drda's Theory of Everything is Darrin's voice and lyrics. His voice fits perfectly with the lyrics; you can almost hear the dry wit he uses in several of his songs. The lyrics of the songs are fun and often goofy, but also sensitive emotional. I really loved everything about this album, the artistry is impeccable and the production is good too. I definitely suggest you check out Darrin Drda's Theory of Everything, whether in CD format or at a live show, it will surely be worth every penny.

Darrin Drda's Theory of Everything is a band that puts Drda's folk songs to a rock sound, providing a variety of upbeat, catchy tunes. With one member adding a complement of horns, keys, and various other instruments to the others' acoustic guitar, bass, and drums, each track is quite different from the rest, so the album stays interesting from beginning to end. The most standout parts of the album are Drda's lyrics, which are always witty and catchy, and occasionally, very tongue-in-cheek. These parts first attracted me to the album, and then the variety in the equally catchy music kept me listening. Ranging from the highly upbeat "A Happy Medium" to the slower and more dramatic "Last Night I Cried" to the jazz/funky sound of "Green's Blues," the songs are held together by Drda's unique voice and characteristic rhymes. As a tiny sidenote: the organization of the songs puts almost all the fast songs in the first six slots and the slower in the last six, breaking up the album's flow half way through, but many might find this setup to be desirable. And if such a minor problem is the only thing I don't like about this album, then I would definitely recommend it to any fan of folk or folk-rock.
