"So far, this is my favorite CD of 2012. There is no finer storyteller in acoustic

song notes from darryl:
Dreams of Life
Inspired by the story of moving to my favorite place in the world in 2005, Paul Zollo began to dream up this song about the lives we live and the lives we imagine living.
The Stories That We Tell
The things we think, and feel, and do, enfold us.
Orange Raincoat
Here's hoping the lovable loser in this song finds his way out.
Race the Wind
For the great Melody Fairchild. During a walking meditation through the Rocky Mountains, prince of mindfulness Thich Nhat Hanh suggested that we not take the next step, until we'd arrived - "Arrive with every step"
The Fourth Chair
Not a creak, or a crack...
Girl From Golden
A previously unrecorded original from the great American songwriter, Dave Carter.
The Ghost of Crazy Horse
Following the river to it's source - a companion piece for track # nine.
Amy
A love song with key changes.
Song for Rachel Corrie
There is a youtube video of 10 year old Rachel talking to her classmates about world hunger. She tells them they can end it, together, if they "look into the future, and see the light that shines there."
Next Time Around
Inspired by the Carousel of Happiness, in Nederland, Colorado, where the chorus hangs on the wall.
liner notes:
This record is for the people whose stories inspired the songs, including Rachel Corrie, Scott Harrison, and Melody Fairchild; and for the people with whom I shared the creative process, including Billy Crockett, Paul Zollo & Kevin Faherty. For Thich Nhat Hanh, who teaches; and for Dave Carter, who continues to affect and inspire.
Bountiful appreciation goes to all the insanely wonderful music makers and artists who offer their talents here.
Special thanks to Tracy Grammer, Elise Fisher, Peggy & Gary Thompson, and Marian Middleton (my mom).
Billy and Dodee Crockett of Blue Rock have demonstrated an intense dedication to nurturing creative spirit and process. That, and their commitment to excellence, sets a high bar that I hope to be striving for, many more times around.
Lastly, a shout out to these Rocky Mountains of the continental divide, in particular those that form the pregnant squaw. For the past seven years, these guys have held me steady, and filled me with a sense of wonder. It took my breath away, when -- while gazing out at them from my new home in Nederland, Colorado -- a neighbor said, 'You know, you can walk up there'. And so I do.
