Just five tracks thus far, and very nice they are too.And so they should be when half the band's four members are high school music teachers. In fact, there'd be questions asked if this was a crap release. Tokoroa's Mr Music, Bevan Galbraith - who you may remember from bands such as the Dead Pan Rangers - hooks up with his Fairfield College counterpart Trevor Faville, Auckland singer-songwriter Sehai Orgad and guitarist Grant Blackler for, as the title suggests, just a taster of what they can do. Without doubt Orgad's Portishead-meets-PJ Harvey voice is what makes the difference here. She lifts what could otherwise be fairly lifeless stuff to quite unexpected heights, and when accompanied by some stirring strings sounds the better for it.More please.
(Two stars)
