(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

This trip hop release has been described as a more "song oriented Portishead", and "a revelation for 2003." Natalie Walker's voice, which has been compared to Sarah McLachlan's, commands the music which is dark and moody, yet very accessible.

notes

"Voted Best Trip Hop Album of 2003" www.tripofagia.com

Nominated "Best CD of 2003" for the Philly Music Awards.

Philadelphia's Daughter Darling takes on the extremely diverse genre of trip-hop and breathes life into it. Natalie Walker's voice drips with soul, but it's the lyrics she sings that take this CD to the next level. She conjures up sounds reminiscent of Sarah Mclachlan and sometimes Fiona-esque way of delivering lyric contraventions and undulating emotions. Her heavenly voice floats in a storm of brilliant, dark piano and strings while dazed slow, slightly monstrous beats churn against their beauty.

Sweet Shadows bleeds gorgeous string sections, classical piano playing, siren like harmonies and combines them with lush textured beats . This project is the culmination of 6 years of beat production, the most talented piano, guitar and string players, a world class DJ battle champion and a girl who knew she was going to be a singer since the age of 3.

"USA-based Daughter Darling could well be the revelation of 2003" -www.triphop.hu-

" Natalie Walker lays her singular voice like an angel with groove"

"Natalie's voice, which sounds eerily like the marriage of Sarah McLachlan and Fiona Apple's voices, is one of the single best that we've heard in some time"
-www.musicaldiscoveries.com(all female vocals review site)-

Natalie's unique voice provides a strong basis for music that is dark and moody. The title track "Sweet Shadows" deals with her emotions of moving to a big city, feeling alone with only the shadows to guide her as she walks around seeing many "souless" people. Voodoo games, is about an ex-boyfriend who can't let go, and uses a voodoo doll to try and continue to keep his violent hold on her from afar.

I found out about this lovely band while searching for a CD by another. Little did I know that I would be so surprised by a band whose CD I purchased after listening to only two tracks. I love this and will definitely be coming back for more. Thanks to CD Baby for helping me get this wonderful album by one of my new favorites: Daughter Darling.

Natalie Walker has the most amazing voice and writes great songs. I can't recommend this album enough and her solo debut, Urban Angel, is even better!

What I like about this is CD most of all are the lyrics accompanied with a great voice and lush melodies. I swear if you shut your eyes and listen to this CD it takes you on a musical journey

  • wow
    author: Richie

This album is soooo good! I agree with everyone else. It is relaxing... Morcheeba...Dada Pogrom....yes, Portished like. It is glued in my stereo absolutely.

  • excellent, atmospheric music
    author: clint

I have no idea what trip-hop is, but if that's what this disk is I must love it. Strong album, no songs that require the skip button (except maybe skip back to listen again).

  • Love at first listen
    author: Beth

When I heard clips of this CD, I just had to have it. I've listened to it all the way through and haven't found a song I don't like (there's usually one on every CD). Natalie's voice is amazing...just get the CD, I promise you won't be disappointed!

  • Best CD I have bought for a long time
    author: Imp

I loved it from the first listening. Please tell me when you are releasing another cd. Magnificent voice, the mixing of hip-hop with such melodic style. What a find.....more, more more!!!!!!

  • awesome
    author: Anna

I love this CD..It's so relaxing. I love how the melodies are haunting, yet beautiful. My favorite tracks are Dust in the Wind and track 6. I'm glad I found them through myspace!

  • author: Jamie

I agree with the person that said DD has a more Lamb sound. You can also recognize the spirituality in this album, which is very apparent when looking at Lamb. I'm not a spiritual person, but the rhythm is tantalizing and a good rhythm always sucks me in.

  • Portishead goes mellow
    author: lordh

Awesome production quality with a unique Trip-Hop sound and a lovely, rich voice. Very atmospheric, haunting songs. Go and tell your friends about this one!

  • This CD is bad ass!
    author: Angel

I listen to this cd when I start my day, it's great. Listen to it if you don't believe me. CD Baby is cool enough to give you a much longer music track sample to tease you, and it's more than the hokey 10 second ones you get on other websites. Kudos CD Baby, you have won me over. NATALIE WALKER, YOU ARE SO HOT!!!

  • I was fortunate enough to stubble upon this cd, it's....amazing!
    author: Melissa

I cannot stop listening to this ablum! The lyrics, and music, everything is so haunting and enchanting. Very rarely can you find a cd that doesn't have a song or two to skip over, but Sweet Shadows is worth listening to every song, over and over in fact. I cannot wait until another album comes out from these very talented people.

  • Hip and soulful
    author: Hillary

It's a dark, dreamy and soulful mix of beautiful piano, good lyrics and an amazing voice. Definitely a must-have.

  • Extraordinary Tallent!
    author: Amber

This album had me after first listen. It reaches deep within and pulls such energy and emotion from the depths of my being. Beautiful work!

  • don't miss this
    author: brooks

Great compliation of haunting musical songs that keep going through your mind. Broad range of sounds and instruments. Some great piano work with drums and bass. Overall effect is kind of trippy. Did I mention the great vocals? Each song is a keeper. Production is super too. The only thing I don't like is the cover photo.

  • that cd is insanity........i love it!i shall falow u and your music for as long as despar is alive. for when despare dies off.....so do i

  • listen to from start to finish, every song a masterwork!
    author: Scott Hatkow

From the first song to the last this is an incredible work! Every song conjures up strong images in the minds eye. I highly suggest you buy it!

  • engaging...each rhythm, lyric, vocal is unique and moving
    author: suzanne

not too up-to-date on the lingo (song oriented portishead? trip hop?)...natalie walker's voice may lean in a sarah mclachlan direction but i would prefer to say that it's uniquely full of variety...at once moody then edgy then dreamy, spacey, wandering...many sounds to take in on this cd and i fell curiously into them from the start...love all the tangled textures and rhythms and cosmic lyrics...

  • Terrific
    author: Tami

Natalie Walker has a beautiful, heartfelt voice (reminds me of Vanessa Carlton) and the piano is a perfect instrument to accompany it. I really love their cover of "Dust In the Wind" as well as "Broken Bridge."

  • like an undiscovered gem
    author: Shannon Davis

I was glad that CDBaby recommended this CD. It walks the line between female singer/songwriter and trip-hop. I was really impressed with the composition, lyrics, and sound of this album. Many songs were winners. Friends who heard the CD at my house wanted to know more about it, always a good sign.

  • A Rare Treat...
    author: Geo Beck

I rarely find a CD or album that I totally enjoy from start to beginning... This one of those... I played it many times over... Just have not tired of this Cd...

  • WONDERFUL CD
    author: mikamik

I love it! I woud like to hear their next cd have more of a trip-hop feel and less piano but listening to the cd is like floating on a serene moment. Every song is related. Highly recommend...

  • Music that gives you the Sweetest Vibe... Daughter Darling is a Must Have!
    author: Sweetest Vibe

Imagine it's late at night and you're entering into a city that's fast asleep with the street lamps overhead guiding you from stop light to stop light. The sign of life is no where in sight... stillness surrounds you. What a perfect opportunity to take it all in, every chill from every beat, every key stroked, every movement and shift of every vibe felt, she is there to accompany you through it. Every tunnel you travel through links you to the next unfamiliar scene. People and places you once visited long ago are rediscovered. Feelings and experiences are awakened within. You are not lost or alone after all. You're not to late either to take it all in... they're timeless so whenever you are ready to take that journey, take that exit, take that leap into something so fulfilling, you'll know what to do. Daughter Darling... music that will move you and a voice that will completely still you!

  • Trip-hop?
    author: Juan P. Prieto

well, Ive heard all the piano I havent heard since I started listening to trip-hop. I dont see that many trip-hop (Melodramatic) textures in this album although its quite sad. ( This is a GENERAL comment) Anyways it is a good album but I would not compare it with portishead. (Lamb?)(Sarah Mac...?) perhaps.

  • Spectacular!
    author: Crystal

this CD was simply a breath of fresh air with it's overwhelming sense of `unique-ness`. I can't wait to order my next CD! =)

  • Beyond Beautiful......
    author: Alecia

I've been a huge fan of Daughter Darling for almost 3 years now, and i'm so happy to see this cd out and how much exposure it's created! I couldn't be any more impressed or moved by every single song on the album! Thank You, Daughter Darling, for allowing the world to be a part of your gift!

  • Enchanting vocals, soothing and calming music
    author: Ashlee

I have to say Daughter Darling is phenomenal! Would give it 6 stars if I can. I am definitely a fan now. Easy listening, and oh my god, you got to listen to the vocals to believe how beautiful anyone can sound! Every single track is perfect. Beautifully choreographed and no two songs sound similar. Now I can't decide if Portishead's Dummy album is my all-time favourite or Daughter Darling's Sweet Shadows. Wonderful music, same genre but definitely distinctive. Can't wait for their second album! Bring them to the UK!!!

  • wonderful, great beats
    author: jenn

Nothing short of great, loved the whole album. i could listen to it over and over again, which i have. it has great beats. album depicted what i was feeling

  • Hot...
    author: Lisa

The CD is hot...vocals are great. Perfect to listen to when unwindin 'n chillin. Natalie's voice is very sensual and the lyrics are great too. Buy it..u won't regret it.

  • a-maz-ing
    author: Kat Tildes

This cd is absolutely amazing. It is constantly being played in my house. In the fashion of other famoust trip-hop artists (Portishead, Sneaker Pimps) this album is a wonderful mix of beats and amazing vocals. Each song flows together really well. Personal faves are Broken Bridge, Voodoo Games, Dust in the Wind ( a cover but amazing) and Shattered, not that the rest are f'ing awesome. Buy this cd! Its great.

  • Best Buy!
    author: Mark Leach

This is by far the best CD I have bought in some time. I love the way the CD flows, each song has its place, and each song is amazingly well done. Of the 200 CDs I own, this sits in my CD player constantly.

  • Amazing!
    author: Barry

Natalie's voice can send chills through you. The beats are all awesome and so intricately entwined that I hear something new everytime I listen to it. There are tones of trip-hop throughout and there's something here for ewveryone whether you're into Portishead, Tori Amos or Morcheeba. This is an awesome CD.

  • Awesome CD and got here quick!
    author: Val

All the songs are amazing. I actually listen to it all the time. It's great!

  • A really great album
    author: Carly

I love this CD - beautiful voice, haunting and atmospheric. I would definitely recommend it.

  • I can't stop listening to this CD!
    author: Faith Myers

This CD is truly amazing! Incredible, thought provoking lyrics (I especially like Things Untold), haunting voice (check out Absconding), clean arrangements (the transition from Mermaid to Sad and Lonely is pure genius)- a must have! One of the top five I've purchased all year; every track is unique and beautiful.

  • Amazing!!!
    author: Jayde

I got this just off the album cover and couldn't be happier. This CD is so amazing I bought several copies as Christmas gifts.

  • WoW! Speachless!
    author: Kitch

Verry good voice, tight music arrangment.

  • Enveloping music
    author: ssolie

I have no idea what Portishead is but I know I like this album. A little weak at times but overall, an excellent effort. I look forward to more from this artist.

  • Absolutely stunning voice
    author: Krista Paul

I picked this up on a whim, having never heard of Daughter Darling before, but she came recommended from CD Baby. I have already lost the CD once and I keep buying it! This one is not to be missed....

  • Close to perfection
    author: Birgitte from Norway

This is a CD I've completely fallen in love with. The tracks are melancolic and absolutely beautiful. There is not one song on this album that I don't like (which is something that I've never experienced before)! You won't regret it if you buy this CD!

  • Refreshing
    author: Keith Duvall

More than wonderful. It is refreshing to hear music like this in a time where unique, artistic, and talent filled music is scarce. This CD will be next to my Massive Attack and Portishead CDs. If future releases are as good as this, I am confident that Daughter Darling will reserve a place in the Ledgend Halls of Trip-Hop.

  • Phenomenal!
    author: Yvette

This CD is phenomenal, from start to finish. Natalie Walker's voice is delicious, and the tunes are absolutely beautifully put together. To compare them to Portishead would be unfair because Daughter Darling has its own sound and is not derivative in any way. With a touch of blues, jazz and folk thrown in for good measure, this trip-hop is something else! Great for a candle-lit dinner or a glass of wine with your honey...

  • Amazing CD, well worth the money
    author: Julie

I have been listening to this CD non-stop since I purchased it. The other reviews are right though, Daughter Darling is nothing like Portishead or anything in that Genre. I can see the reference to Tori Amos especially in track #4. I would call DD very mild and jazzy trip hop. Not what you'd expect, but definitely a pleasant surprise. The vocals are beautiful and classy. I'd definitely recommend this CD to somebody who is looking for something new.

  • The vocals you've been missing....
    author: Jeff

What this CD is not: Portishead, Sarah Mclachlan, or Tori Amos. I really don't see the parrallels. Never the less, this is a great CD in it's own right. The entire disk is very listenable. There is a nice range and depth in Natalie's voice. I expect we will be hearing much more from this young vocalist, and I will definately be looking forward to it.

  • Great Album
    author: Guy Bernice

This cd is very enjoyable. I like what they did with the cover for "Dust In The Wind" and their original songs are well thought out and well put together. I couldn't think of another band, or CD that gave me the feel that this one did. Pick this CD up if you like good music!

  • This is blinding stuff - but stop comparing it to Portishead!!
    author: James from London

This is a great cd. But it is nothing like Portishead, although if you love the big P like I do, you'll love this. Where Portishead are the best James Bond soundtrack never commissioned, this album is much, much more gothic. It is full of brilliant dark piano and strings and dazed slow, slightly monstrous beats, but as everyone else here has said, it is the vocals that really tie it all together. The woman's voice is brilliant. Just by the damn thing! I didn't regret it, and neither will you, unless you dislike superb music. The best Blind-Buy I have had. The artwork is totally right for the music too. perfect.

  • if I hadn't already, I'd buy it!
    author: katie

This is one of those albums you're always in the mood for. I'm not really a trip hop kinda girl, break beat's really more my scene, but this is ace. A night in with friends, on your own, or when you've just come back from dancing your little socks off, this comes into its own. On a scale of 1-10, I'd have to say this is pretty darn good.

  • Relaxing
    author: Scavenger

This CD is very relaxing and nice. It kind of reminded me of Portishead but not in an annoying way. Lovely voice, relaxing music.

  • Beautiful
    author: Joliene

This is one of the best CDs I've heard in a long time. I love this girl's voice, and the lyrics blow my mind. I couldn't have asked for a better thing! This has to be my favorite CD. Totally hot.

  • this is hot, i love it
    author: scandal du jour

I can't stop listening to this cd. The songs range from beautiful and deep to downright sexy. I love it.

  • Mind-Blowing
    author: Mr P

This CD is superb. The music is trip-hop but a far cry from the likes of Massive Attack and Lamb. Like Portishead in its emotive content but musically it is more orchestral with violins and cellos. A gorgeous bass in the background beautifully juxtaposes Natalie's sublime voice. Recommended!

  • mmmm!!
    author: marshal

vocals and music are awsome, especially the cello and violin. great cd for trip hop fans and real hip-hop fans, and all chicks:)

This album really rocks. The lead singer has a voice that floats over thumpin beats. I'm upgrading my system in my car just so i can play the cd the way it was ment to be heard.

  • Like a perfect dream
    author: Bob Menser

Imagine your deepest sleep where your dreams are perfectly surreal, so vivid but unreachable. A beautifully comforting voice embraces you above a perfect array of music an sounds. I've been waiting for years!

  • i love it!
    author: Tiffanee

I LOVE IT!They categorized this as depressing, but i don't think it is!I love her voice and the music mixed in the back is perfect!I would love to hear more from her in the future!

  • Hot Love!!
    author: Tim

Love it!!! I had heard so much about this CD and I could never get it. Finally though it is mine!!! It is classic, brilliant trip-hop. The bass on the CD is amazing!!!! Listened to it for a week straight!!!

  • High quality trip hop
    author: Permanent4

If you're not a fan of slow, groovin' electronic music with hip hop influence, this album might make you one. Natalie Walker's voice drips with soul, but it's the lyrics she sings that take this CD to the next level. "With all the colors in the world, yours had to be blue." Go listen. Right now.

  • my stranded on an island cd
    author: amybrooks

i've had this cd since it came out, and i can't stop listening to it (i have a nasty habit of overplaying songs and then regretfully becoming sick of them). not this time though. this is an amazing cd and i've tried introducing it to everyone i know. the more you listen, the better it gets. if i'm stranded on an island, i'll survive so long as i have this cd....and maybe a cd player made out of coconuts.

  • number 1
    author: TRIPOFAGIA | trip-hop & downbeat

Voted the best album of 2003, by trip-hoppers who visit tripofagia.com ...

  • Uh....can you say great?
    author: Robert Lawrence

This cd completely rocks. When I put it on at home my wife said "Is that a new Portishead album? It sounds great!" To be fair, this is a great album, and only sounds Portishead-influenced, which is to say it stands on its own even if you don't know who Portishead is. I listened to it constantly for a week before my wife stole it and put it in her car.

  • Great CD. Very interesting combination of forces at work.
    author: bc

Really enjoyed the mixture of more traditional musicianship, with the electronica and other elements. Great lead voice. Only suggestion would be to lighten up on the angst a bit, or at least offer a track or two or respite. I suspect that will come with maturity.

  • Simply a really good cd...
    author: Pete

Ok, I bought 2 (one for my sister) after just listening to a few of the clips here. Very well produced, it is obvious that a lot of time went into it. It is strangely addictive if you like downtempo mixed with a bit of Fiona Apple(as everyone says) but I do think the singer has a much better range than many other mix n' match trip hop singers. Now it may not be happy, happy, but it made me feel really good on a recent long road trip. I look forward to their next project.

  • Natalie Walker has a geat voice and it combines perfect with the piano.
    author: Mónica Samaniego

The voice is very clear and the piano sounds great. I would include more piano in the songs. The combination is very calming and strong.

  • This CD is soothing, claming, and crazy.
    author: Jennifer

This CD is awesome. I love there songs how they talk about misunderstanding, pain, grief, and saddness. How they always talked about how other people hurt other people. I consider everyone who loves this kind of music to buy it.

  • beautiful! The kind of music to listen to while bathing.
    author: Katie

after listening to the samples, i immediately bought it. i love every second of it. if you're one of those people who like the female vocalists like sarah mclachlan with the guitar and the piano, you'll love this cd. buy it now. you won't regret it.

  • A must have
    author: Mr.B

Wonderful soundscapes, intense atmosphere. Trip hop essence is here. You don't buy it...you're a loser. In Italy we say..."bene, bravi, bis!"

  • A Must Own CD
    author: jason.

Definitely among the top ten releases of 2003, Sweet Shadows is a great blend of relaxed beats, hauntingly good vocals, and solid production. I've been pushing this on everyone I know and impressions are uniformly good.

  • Essential Addition To Any "Chill Out" Collection
    author: L.I. Guy

Special consideration should be given to this CD when you're making your own top 10 Trip-Hop lists. Absolutely essential, close to perfect.

  • HELL YA TO TRIP-HOP!!

  • Excellent
    author: Wonder Woman

Once i found out about Daughter Darling I rushed to get my hands on a copy of Sweet Shadows and it was well worth it. From the beautiful piano and string arrangements to the talented voice of Natalie Walker, I can listen to this cd everyday and not grow tired of it. Definately a must have for any true trip hop fan.

  • TRIP-HOP CLASSIC!!!!!!
    author: BUDO

Anyone who calls themselves a fan of trip-hop needs to buy this record. What's most impressive about Daughter Darling is how they are able to create a unique sound in a genre that tends to all sound similiar. They're obviously great songwriters and great musicians. This record has everything a trip-hop classic should. BUY! BUY! BUY!

  • author: nudude

to keep it short: i love this album.

  • Keeps me wanting more....
    author: Whitney Kew

I've been listening to this CD nonstop ever since it graced my mailbox. It was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm not regretting this purchase for one second! In my opinion, there isn't one particular song that stands out heads and shoulders above the rest, which is what I think makes this CD so solid. A great, interesting listen!

  • this thing here is fabulous
    author: ina

Have you ever heard such a melodic feeling voice before?Have you ever wanted to feel music? Yes?Then buy this thing here.

  • Get This!
    author: Bryan Williams

If you liked the Esthero or Mono album, or like Evanescence, then you should like this group. Vocalist Natalie Walker will definitely remind you of Sarah McLachlan, and sometimes, sometimes Vanessa Carlton, if she was locked in a shadow room for a while and listened to The Cure's 'Paris : Live' album. Natalie Walker also writes some great lyrics and has a Fiona-esque way of delivering some of her lyric contraventions and undulating emotions, like on track 7 - "Things Untold." The title of the cd gives a little bit about the mood of the music. There are so many lingering elements: siren vocals, gaelic-like strings, beautiful pianos, soft and jazzy pulses, various beat-patterns, folk guitars, subtle dj mix-ins, creative background vocal-layering, and airy/sea sanctuary. They are above their preceding label as "trip-hop" because the music digs unconventionally deeper than that. They push the music into a space that can't be denied and needs to be listened to. Get this!

  • This is an important new voice!
    author: Rapunzel

Every once in a great while you hear something so important that you have to share it with the world! This is it! Don't get caught up in how to categorize this voice or sound...what makes it so great is that it tempts you to really listen and as one other reviewer suggested..."close your eyes" and get lost in this music and let it wash over you, lift you and then gently let you down while sending a wave through your body.

  • BLEW ME AWAY!!
    author: coldcoldheart

I was so tired of all the music playing on the radio and in my cd player. I stumbled across your site and ran into Daughter Darling and WOW!! What an amazing sound and voice! I have passed this one along! Check it out!

My friend Mandy and I talk music a lot, and we have introduced each other to a lot of great new stuff. One day, after a lot of build-up, she told me this CD was finally out. We both came to CDBaby.com and bought it at the same time. (Although I admit I only bought ;-) one copy.) When it arrived, I put it on in my office, and sat down to do some writing; I always write with music playing. But I soon found myself closing my eyes and getting swallowed up in the music. Natalie's voice refused to be relegated to my background. I could make comparisons to triphop and downtempo legends like Massive Attack, Portishead, and Poe, but that gives you just the roughest idea of Daughter Darling's idiom. My suggestion: Listen to the clips on this site with your eyes closed in a quiet room. Then open your eyes and order this CD right away.

  • Very Good Listen!

I bought this CD after hearing only one great song. The rest of it is fantastic too. This band should be signed for major success. Check it out...you won't be disappointed. www.LoveAshtrays.com

I write now as an individual, not talking as a representant of tripofagia... Actually just cause I haven't mentioned something I consider essential. If you listen to their clips and the songs that are available for downloading and like them (even a bit), u gotta buy the cd. It's one of those albums whose quality can't be totally reached by streaming reproduction or mp3, or other audio formats. The original album will always sound much better. I was amazed by their songs since they made some tracks available on their site, when they started divulging their songs. And now I'm much more amazed, and it's exactly due to the quality of the album (really, mp3 can't express it the best way). Believe, you won't appreciate their songs correctly unless you get the original copy of Sweet Shadows... Uh, I hope I could explai my point... : ))

This is a well written set of tracks. Sounds like they have the right amount of artistic chemistry. only one song I really did not care for on the cd, 1 out of 11 isn't to bad.

Wow! I can't believe this group isn't huge or signed under some big major record label! Natalie's voice is so pure and emotianally raw. She conjures up sounds reminiscent of Sarah Mclachlan and sometimes I even hear a tiny bit of Anna Lynn from Trespassers William in her words. My favorite songs on this album are the subtly powerful Broken Bridge, which is an extremely emotianal song. Mermaid is my absolute favorite track because of it's oddly beautiful beats and ethereal vocals that really actually make me feel like I'm at the bottom of the sea with a beautiful half fish, half human siren of song. Let Me Speak is another great song and Natalie's vocals are at there best here, as she flows with a soulfulness that even some of the most well known singers these days cant pull off. Absconding is a very touching song and the albums most stark and gentle ballad. I also love the remake of Dust In The Wind and feel that it even beats Sarah Brightman's revamp of the classic tune. Overall this is such an incredible and hypnotic debut album. I really hope we get to hear more from them in the future! Buy this cd! You Won't regret it! This is trip hop at it's best!

  • Sweeter than you can imagine!

This was a blind purchase for me, and I'm very glad to have made it. Listening to this CD puts me in a really good mood, though the songs are not necessarily upbeat. It's one of those CDs where I am intentionally limiting myself from listening to it constantly so as not to tire of it. My favorite tracks would be the last two, with special credit to the cover, "Dust in the Wind". I've played this CD a few times while falling asleep, and I somehow always manage to wake up when this song comes on. Buy Sweet Shadows. You won't regret it.

The first thing you realize when you turn up to Sweet Shadows is the very first thing you have contact with: the cover. That’s okay, it’s just a beautiful picture… Out of its package, it’s time to play it. I believe the first track, Broken Bridge, is the most representative song on the album − and, because of that, perfect to open this opus. The very first 77 seconds are a kind of synthesis of what is gonna come around the 11 tracks. The great sensibility represented by the piano; the darkish and urban side of the downbeat in contrast with the exuberant brightness come from Natalie’s vocals; a voice that for being so amazing even make us believe in the truth of what is being pronounced − and all of a sudden a find myself really pondering and accepting: all my rooms are filled with musty dust, time has taken all that I possess, I never know if to laugh or to scream, to hate or to believe… ... to read the rest, please visit the site; there's a whole version of this review in english. tripofagia.4x2.net

  • Unexpectedly Great!

I only heard one track before I bought the cd but that one track made me want to buy the cd. I won't say which track it was but man was I impressed to find the rest of the songs just as great or better. It's now one of my favorite cds. Love it!

I found this CD by browing CD Baby. What a find! The sense of power and and longing is nearly palpable on every song. And my appreciation for the music has deepened on repeat listenings. Enjoy!

  • greatest cd i have bought in a long time
    author: bill

every song on this cd is great, but not every song is as good as the next. Broken bridge, shattered, let me speak, sad and lonely, things untold, voodoo games, and sweet shadows are all perfect songs. The rest are good, but feel like filler in comparison.

  • Excellent

I love this cd!!! Natalie's voice is so beautiful and it goes well with the amazing music. This album is way better than some of the mainstream artists around today. My favorite songs are Let Me Speak, Mermaid, and Voodoo Games. I love Daughter Darling!!!!

  • please bring natalie to the front of the mix
    author: jazzyfatn(astee)

This is an absolutley brilliant first release. The music is emotive and intoxicating. The vocals are majestic - yet seem to be buried in the mix a bit through the first half of the disc. Natalie is a true gift to downtempo fans everywhere - IMO her best track in "Sad and Lonely" where she gives me goosebumps. My other favorite tracks are "Broken Bridge" and the truly original "Mermaid". Basically - DD have given us a downtempo/jazzy/trip hop masterpiece that any music fan should be proud to own. (Also - I live in Pittsburgh - a stop on this side of PA would be ever so welcome)

  • A new era: a trip-hop band raised on the genre they create.
    author: j. byron nelson

The debut album from Daughter Darling may be the finest down-tempo-electronic-flourished-female-fronted album of all time; a specific category I know. DD don't push any envelopes or try to stray too far out of the box -- and this is probably their greatest strength. By being comfortable in their own skin, they have perfected the sound of a genre that is less than 10 years old. I can't say enough good things about this band: strong, but soft, vocals, wonderful instrumentation & engaging lyrics. Song after song made me smile knowing that I now own an album that will soon be considered a staple in any library . . . yea, it's that good.

I love DD soo much its a refreshing bit of depression in a world full of high spirited bubble gum crap. Daughter Darling is an amazingly beautiful darkness, and i cant get enough. I hope that they stay true to there underground connoisseur aditude but still get the high recognition from a more mainstream audiance Mch love to DJ Infinite

I don't even have to hear the full-length CD-- I know from the first 5 songs I've heard by DD, this is an amazing release, and much-anticipated. Everyone into trip-hop should pick up this CD. You won't regret it. -Skip / Beauty's Confusion http://beautysconfusion.net
