This trip hop release has been described as a more "song oriented Portishead", and "a revelation for 2003." Natalie Walker's voice, which has been compared to Sarah McLachlan's, commands the music which is dark and moody, yet very accessible.

Album Notes

"Voted Best Trip Hop Album of 2003" www.tripofagia.com Nominated "Best CD of 2003" for the Philly Music Awards. Philadelphia's Daughter Darling takes on the extremely diverse genre of trip-hop and breathes life into it. Natalie Walker's voice drips with soul, but it's the lyrics she sings that take this CD to the next level. She conjures up sounds reminiscent of Sarah Mclachlan and sometimes Fiona-esque way of delivering lyric contraventions and undulating emotions. Her heavenly voice floats in a storm of brilliant, dark piano and strings while dazed slow, slightly monstrous beats churn against their beauty. Sweet Shadows bleeds gorgeous string sections, classical piano playing, siren like harmonies and combines them with lush textured beats . This project is the culmination of 6 years of beat production, the most talented piano, guitar and string players, a world class DJ battle champion and a girl who knew she was going to be a singer since the age of 3. "USA-based Daughter Darling could well be the revelation of 2003" -www.triphop.hu- " Natalie Walker lays her singular voice like an angel with groove" -www.infratunes.com "Natalie's voice, which sounds eerily like the marriage of Sarah McLachlan and Fiona Apple's voices, is one of the single best that we've heard in some time" -www.musicaldiscoveries.com(all female vocals review site)- Natalie's unique voice provides a strong basis for music that is dark and moody. The title track "Sweet Shadows" deals with her emotions of moving to a big city, feeling alone with only the shadows to guide her as she walks around seeing many "souless" people. Voodoo games, is about an ex-boyfriend who can't let go, and uses a voodoo doll to try and continue to keep his violent hold on her from afar.

Can't Get Enough!
author: Christine Kern
With a commanding and haunting voice, Natalie Walker's voice hooks you. I ordered only because I figured a artist compared to Portishead is bound to be good.... and this is better! My favorite track to listen over and over to is 'Sad & Lonely' - the mournful lyrics, the amazing feel of the song, everything. When I can't figure out what to listen to, this album isn't far from my iPod.

Amazing Debut Album!
author: Phil Hines
This album and band are simply amazing. The whole album traverses about every angle you could probably take to the genre of Trip-Hop. Natalie Walker's sumptuous voice, guitar licks she plays herself, heavy beats, piano layers and even cello, playing passionately and mournfully. Broken Bridge is undoubtably the flagship single of this album, haunting and stirring, yet still ultimately uplifting the listener to a sense of hope.
