Album Notes

"Take Me Back" is a CD featuring the original songs and vocal abilities of Dave Cantrell. This Cd Boasts about songs reflecting the heart of the musician, songs of God`s unchangeableness and mans` fickleness, songs of mom and dad and the old days and ways, the sad state of modern country music and the abandoning of people because the industry deems them unmarketable, songs of love, loss, and the hope for a future reunion.
Dave Cantrell is a mature artist, who has lived a full life, worked hard to raise his family, loved his wife for going on 28 years, and sacrificed opportunities to go into the music business professionally earlier in life because he considered those preceeding things as more important. He has worked in sawmills, many years in factories, He was a mailman, youth pastor, fence installer, air cargo loader, and is currently the lead singer, harmony singer, mandolinist and musical director at the Pigeon Forge Tenn. dinner theater "Fiddlers Feast".
The songs:
Young like You again- a gospel song of how we age and get stuck in our ways, but God does neither.

They don`t make Country Music- laments the sad state of modern country, with mention of the early
country icons.

Year of `35- is a song of his parents birth year, upbringing, love of the times, with no desire to repeat them.

You Don`t Know- a dark little song for those of us who walk through spiritually dark places.

Faraway Land- a Celtic - type gospel song where the wanderer finds the way.

This Cd has online reviews available at www.bluegrassworks.com also www.bluegrass.sk/blueweb (click on the english flag for translation), and Bluegrass Unlimited Feb. 2004.

Raves:

Jim Callicott of the Tennessee Star Journal writes, "If Vince Gill ever heard Dave Cantrell sing, he would lock himself up in the bathroom and all the Amy Grants in the world would`nt get him out".

Fred Bartenstein, bluegrass historian and radio and web host states, "Dave Cantrell has an excellent voice, writes interesting songs, and has achieved an excellent sounding recording".

Jason Hooker of bluegrassworks.com - "Take Me Back" is a great blend of old style bluegrass and new style writing. "

Gracie Muldoon, syndicated web and radio Dj- "have you heard Dave Cantrell sing "Never Leave Harlan Alive? His rendition beats Patty Loveless`... and hers is great. Check him out".

Richard White DJ, WQSV Ashland City Tenn.- "We need more folks like you- just wish the industry would be more receptive to real country and gospel music,"like it was in `52"...". Quote from "They Don`t Make Country Music".

Dave sings all the lead vocals, and most of the harmonies, and plays guitar on everything except the break in "They Don`t make Country Music". Steve Ison plays mandolin and sings some harmonies, and plays lead guitar on "They Don`t make Country Music". This project was recorded on an MCI 24 track reel to reel tape recorder, giving it that warm, vintage sound. Who needs digital.

Why Dave has not been signed to a record label or deal is beyond me. From the first time I listened to this CD I was amazed at his ability as a singer and songwriter. I hope to hear more from him in the near future. Great voice! Great CD!

Dave Cantrell has lived most of the songs he has written. You can tell from listening to " Year of 35" and the "Kentucky Waltz". He is not singing words but his feelings for the music. Good Music, Good Singer!
