AT http://cdbaby.com/cd/davecox5

"Stuff" is Dave Cox's second independent release, and while his last CD was made up of good ol' honkytonk music about drinking and broken love, this release pushes his songwriting into a different realm.

Another collection of all original music penned by Cox himself, an underlying theme is woven throughout the lyrics of many of the songs dealing with "stuff". Apart from that Cox moves seamlessly from singing about a mischievous woman's stained wedding dress to a man forced to spend his first holiday season alone; then from haunting imagery of relatives who've passed on to even more haunting imagery of a man singing to his ex-wife from his own casket (sounds terribly sad, but it's actually quite funny).

Fans of Cox's last CD- Song Stylings- will be glad to know that "That Old Feeling" could have just as easily been named "Airways Motel Part 2", and don't lift the laser from the CD until you hear the trailer song, which is actually the title track- "Stuff"- and sounds like a mix between Johnny Cash music and Roger Miller lyrics.

All in all a great CD that makes you think, laugh, and maybe even shed a tear- highly reccomended if you like traditional or alt country.

Best New Artist and Recording for 2006
author: Dr. Steve
Dave Cox is something of a progressive retro Country artist. His style hovers somewhere between the 1950's Rockabilly hipsters and today's hot new sounds. Cox is above all a great song stylist. His vocal style is reminscent of Rodney Crowell. His songwriting harkens to the likeness of Crowell, Roger Miller and Bill Anderson. "Stuff" is Dave Cox's second CD release in 2 years. His first CD release was more of the good time honky tonk beer drinking music. But "Stuff" is a more mature heartfelt outing for this soon to be Country star. Cox's music is laden with steel guitar streams and big lead guitar riffs that sound like they came straight from Memphis. "Stuff" is comprised of eleven amazing song tracks all uniquely Dave Cox. The highlights from "Stuff" includes the songs "Bad Habit", "Christmas Alone", "That Old Feeling", "The Stained Dress" and "I've Been Dead for Years." Of all of these tracks, "Bad Habit" should be Cox's first radio hit. His style is hardcore Country with a progressive easy to listen to style. Dave Cox's "Stuff" album is filled with truly heartfelt sentiment and smart, sassy tongue in cheek hook lines. Cox writes all of his own songs which makes for an even more pleasureable listening experience. If you buy only one CD this year, make your purchase "Stuff" by Dave Cox. You'll thank me later.

I love this CD
author: Jenny
I bought this after a friend turned me on to his first CD and I think I like this one even better. There is no way for me to describe the range of emotions I experience from one song to the next. Some of the most unique and cool songwriting I have ever heard. Some day I'll make it to Nashville and hear him in person, but these CDs are the next best thing until then!
