Album Notes

Recorded at Beat Hollow Studio in the hills of Nashville's West Meade neighborhood, Old King Crow is a raw and unpolished portrait of guitarist Dave Isaacs' dynamic and improvisational trio...tracked mostly live with minimal overdubs, and filtered through the sonic sensibility of producer/engineer Fognode.

CD review:

Dave Isaacs' Old King Crow is the classically-trained, blues-rock inspired guitarist/singer/songwriter's best outing to date. Already established as a graceful and gritty string-man, with "Crow" Isaacs comes into his own as a vocalist/lyricist, too. The album socks you with a one-two punch with its first cut, a deep-fried electric morsel called "Swamp Hog Blues." The very next track is the lush and poignant "I Don't Want to Go Downtown." "Downtown" features Isaacs' ever-captivating wailing guitar, partnered with his best bit of emotional singing to date.

The balance of the record is a strong mix with elements of folk, blues rock and jazz flavorings, with a smoky production by Fognode that works splendidly for this album. Pay close attention to Isaacs, a New York guitarist now based in Nashville. He's fixing to to take staid ol' Music City by the horns and wrestle it into the dirt.

This album refuses to exit my CD player. Very inspired in-the-moment playing both by Dave & the rhythm section. The sound of the record is warm, each instrument is clearly distinct from the other ones. Thoughtful lyrics, melodies that I can't get enough of, and he sings incredibly well. Highly recommended.

Wow! This CD is what makes the "folky, blues heart" beat and rock on. What a tribute to the eternal soul of real Americana blues.

This guy defines amazing on the guitar... if you haven't heard the new CD, then what on earth are you waiting for? In a universe of amateurs, Dave is one of the few who seems to have mastered his instrument. Rock on.
