Album Notes

Bass player....songwriter....occasional guitar player....armchair philosopher....frontman and founder of the everlasting New Orleans roots/funk band Juice....hardcore New Orleanian..... purveyor of good times and great music.... guardian of the groove...

All of the above can aptly describe Dave. For 14 years he has steered Juice from south Louisiana to all corners of the U.S., spreading the culture and vibe of New Orleans with a fierce dedication. Along the way, Juice has been named Best Emerging Funk/Soul/R&B Band, been nominated for Best Roots Rock band and Best Roots Rock Record. They have been described by local media as a “supergroup” and “the personification of the New Orleans ethos.”

Most recently, no less an icon than Art Neville, founder of the world renowned Neville Brothers and the Meters, covered Dave’s song The Biggest Little Shrimp In Town for a short film of the same name. The Beverly Hills Short Film Festival created an award for it. High times, indeed.

Juice will never stop but, here and now, Dave has branched out with his first solo record.

Produced by Grammy award winning songwriter and extraordinary singer/guitar player Anders Osborne, These Old Boots blurs the lines of roots rock, Americana and country styles infused with the loose vibe that New Orleans musicians are known world round. Rolling piano and greasy organ by 88s master Joe Krown... lilting, ethearal pedal steel guitar by Dwight “Country D” Breland...Dave’s own Mississippi John Hurt-styled finger pickings...duets with golden hued songstress Karen Bailey...Anders surprisingly magnificent pockets on drums...

These Old Boots paints a textured time and space, like a collaboration of Daniel Lanois with Allen Toussaint, stripped down bare to a man trying to find what is next. With no answers.
