An American original

Musicians often search for years to define themselves: there's no problem distinguishing the music and wit of Dave Manning, even if comparisons can be made to Tom Waits (who's that?) and other artists of this caliber. I consider Dave as a musical anthropologist of American culture, like Waits, Guthrie, Seeger, etc., with a great gravely voice, insightful and funny lyrics, and swinging piano stylings. Best of all, my four-year-old daughter is nuts about his music and often tells me: I want to hear Dave. To which I am always glad to accommodate and put on his CD, unless we can go see him live, which we've done together on many occassions. He always puts on a great show.
