Album Notes

A lot of people still say I sound like Tom Waits. But in the 67,000 miles I've put on my old VW bus since my last CD; they've said a lot of other things too. The Lake Tahoe Daily Tribune said “If Mark Twain played the piano, he might sound like this guy…the music is good and the stories are damn funny!” High praise coming from Twain's old stomping ground. KVMR, Nevada City, CA; the world's greatest Radio Station, said my music tells “Provocative stories of Love Life and the Pursuit…Better than Greg Brown.” Of course the best quotes are the ones that don't compare, they just describe. KBGA in Missoula, MT said “Dave keeps your interest with soul-filled licks, and kisses you good-night and breaks up with you at the same time.” And the Anchorage Daily News said: “Dave's music gives you the feeling of being in a smoky bar sometime before the sun goes down.” Of course, in Anchorage, sundown can be anytime between 3:40 and 11:40, depending on the season… Also in those 67,000 miles I've had the honor of opening up for Dan Bern, James Mathus, and Mose Allison. Around mile 6,420 Arlo Guthrie autographed my old bus. And mile 37,546 found me driving through the gates of Folsom Prison to play for the boys in blue. Sometimes I feel that in an age of www dot karaoke dot cell phone dot corporate radio, I'm the last of the genuine singer-storytellers left driving the blue highways. Well folks, in a plastic world, you still have Dave Manning. And if you don't like my album, I'll give your money back.

No animals were harmed in the recording of this album. Except the 2 birds, 1 squirrel, and 8,312,451 bugs killed while driving, and all the polar bears that will go extinct as a result of my carbon emmissions. Rest in peace.
