notes

Dave Mascall was born in Southend and began playing guitar at the age of 14. He was first inspired by the playing of Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore and the like, but when he saw a television programme featuring the late Joe Pass he started to change direction and started to develop his jazz playing skills. He now cites George Benson, Larry Carlton and Lee Ritenour as influences.

After playing in local jazz clubs, his first professional music work was in Canada where he was able to draw in his original influences touring and playing throughout Ontario and Quebec. During this period he started to combine his jazz playing with his rock roots to good effect. Returning to the UK, he found himself playing in local swing band 'Rent Party', releasing two self penned singles. He was a UK finalist in a Yamaha band competition which led to the release of the jazz/dance track "Whose making Money?"

He then spent subsequent years completing the line up of various different bands and at the same time performing with visiting American soul artists, notably; Junior Walker, Jean Carn, GC Cameron (Detroit Spinners) and many more. He was fortunate to dep for smooth jazz star Peter White for a brief period playing in the backing band for ex Matt Bianco singer, Basia. He then spent some time playing and touring with Sister Sledge, George Mc Crae and others. Recently he has been performing in two soul and motown tribute shows - Reach Out and Sisters of Soul - in addition to pursuing other musical recording and live projects.

"ANYTHING YOU NEED" is Dave's debut solo instrumental release containing 10 original smooth and funky tracks. This album showcases Dave's guitar playing and song writing skills and features highly melodic tunes with some inspired soloing over a variety of funky grooves including UK garage and Latino house.

Dave has his own website www.getfunkyman.com where you can hear mp3 down loads from the album and also from Dave's dance music project Franklin D Stone featuring guest vocalists.
