ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
As light dissolves into darkness, and water quenches a flame, the yin and yang perpetuate a balance within ones soul through the expression of music.

Second Attention is the newest creation from instrumental guitarist, Dave Odegaard. If it's raw talent you crave, Second Attention deserves your undivided attention. This spirited work of music is inspiring and impact full. Dave has mastered the art of articulating both the wild and passive voices of his inner self, thus crafting a balance of musical genre second to none. Dave imparts the ultimate mix of progressive rock, bleeding guitar ballads and a rocking alternative to toe-tapping, finger-snapping, head-banging jams that move the listener through an aural trip of impassioned imagery.

This uninhibited ear-fest kicks in at high gear with the first track, Anomaly, an intense techno-rock pulsation of electric energy that weaves itself through weighty grooves backed by salacious solid beats. On guitar ballad Remember, Dave conjures up reflective thoughts of hot sensuous sunsets, lazy summer days, and tempting dirt road taverns. The exhilarating title track, Second Attention, leads you through a whirlwind of fast-paced riffs and hot-tempered shreds layered with enthusiastic and expressive solos.

Second Attention is testament that Dave can indeed shred with the best of the greats, but his focus is geared more toward creating an overall tone coupled with a spontaneous vibe. "What I went for was a reckless abandon attitude towards playing," quotes Dave. To let you in on a couple of Dave's inventive musical techniques, he employed the use of tools, such as a screw driver, in his solo on Spectral Dimensions, producing an alien squealing effect. In Hallucinations, he uses a #2 pencil to generate heavier percussive tone to his riffs resolving into grooves with a more vivacious feel.

Born in San Diego, Dave moved to Japan at the age of 5, and migrated back to Los Angeles in 1988, where he received his music education at G.I.T. Dave continued his musical career working with many local bands, and various artists. Extensive U.S. and international touring experience has contributed to his eclectic playing style and grace. Working as a studio musician and sideman, Dave has had the fortunate opportunity of playing with many notable musicians such as Ron Wikso, (drummer with Foreigner, The Storm and Richie Sambora), Chris Frazier, (drummer for Steve Vai), Mark Zonder, (drummer for Fates Warning), and Wade Biery, (bassist/singer for Still, Leanne Rimes, Carlene Carter and The Turtles).

Extremely Impressed with this CD
How do I verbalize the sounds that have touched the very core of my soul? Mr. Odegaard has unleashed a quality of music that is absolutely astounding. Freeing actually. The vibe just infiltrated my spirit and lifted my energy level to a new high. I'm looking forward to the east coast tour. I think I need to see this show live. I thought all the great musicians died or went into rehab hell, but I guess there are still a few that are alive and kicking and ripping. My soul can dream again!

Buy this CD and play it loud!!
Having gotten over 'guitar hero' pyrotechnics a long time ago, I always cringe at first when listening to a music-only CD written by a guitar player. With this one, I was hugely relieved right off the bat to hear the inclusion of a wide pallette of sonic elements usually associated with techno, driven by the unmistakeable playing of an exceptional drummer, and topped off with *really good melodies*, who would have thought. Not that this guy can't shred - he can, and does. The energy is simply harnessed and released only where it is appropriate to the overall direction of the music. Refreshing restraint in this day and age. Buy this CD and play it loud, even at stop lights with bangers next to you...they'll likely dig it too.

Grab this CD, you'll love it!
Interweaving sonic textures form an ethereal backdrop to guitar that alternately weeps melody, then stands up and rips. Grab this CD, you'll love it.

Great mix of great music
This CD demonstrates the great range that Dave has. I highly recommend this CD.

Hideki Noro

This album rocks with the best of them!
An amazing album with groovin' tunes and wicked (yet emotional) guitar playing. It's one of those CDs that makes you push the medal to the pedal when you're cruisin' on the highway!

Tim

Highly recommended
Great combination of musical textures without the heavy, guitar-only emphasis common to other instrumentals. Definitely a must-have.
