Album Notes

Growing up as the youngest of five children in Iowa, singer/songwriter Dave Zobl's childhood could easily read like an episode of the Wonder Years.

"Looking back now, I can really appreciate how great of a childhood I had," Zobl remembers.

His debut CD "Best Day Yet" conjures up musical images of that time with songs such as " My Backyard," "Iowa Boy," and " My Old Man." Zobl was raised listening to the great music from the sixties and late seventies.

"My siblings had great taste in music. I can still hear the strains of Carole King's Tapestry album coming from my sister's room," he recalls.

His influences run the gamut from Van Morrison to John Prine, and that diversity can be heard throughout Best Day Yet.

Best Day Yet, produced by Bob Tyler, includes 13 original songs.

The album features a group of talented musicians including: former members of the Subdudes John Magnie (piano, accordion, harmonica) and Steve Amedee (percussion) along with Bob Tyler (guitar), Rich Moore (bass), Tim O'Brien (fiddle, mandolin, bazouki), Celeste Krenz (background vocals) and Mollie O'Brien (background vocals.) Producer Bob Tyler describes Zobl's music as being "as real and heartfelt as a Norman Rockwell painting. He has an uncanny ability to make you want to look back while still looking forward."

The stories and memories communicated throughout Best Day Yet are deeply personal and yet unquestionably universal.

His lyrics and music are filled with an honesty and simplicity that move you to appreciate everyday life.

"Life can be pretty overwhelming sometimes, so to me there is no better release than just sitting down with a guitar and a blank pad of paper," says Zobl. "From there it's just fun to see what comes out. Hopefully some of it rings true with people. It's something that I feel fortunate to do and hopefully will do for a long time to come."
