Announcing the release of "In Between" from David Ake. Recorded during one five-hour session on April 10, 2005, "In Between" marks Ake's first CD devoted entirely to solo piano.


After studies at the University of Miami and California Institute of the Arts, David Ake first garnered attention as a leader and sideman in New York and Los Angeles alongside such creative colleagues as Ralph Alessi, Jeff Ballard, Scott Colley, and Ravi Coltrane. Since making Reno his home in 1999, his work has included a number of live performances and recordings, including three CDs with the Northern Nevada-based quintet, The Collective.

In addition to his work as a performer and composer, Ake holds a Ph.D. in musicology from UCLA, and authored the highly regarded book "Jazz Cultures," as well as numerous essays exploring jazz's ever-evolving meanings and practices. Now a professor in the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Nevada, Reno, David Ake welcomes questions and comments on any and all of these projects. We absolutely love this CD

We absolutely love this CD and David Ake's music. My wife dances to "Friday the thirteenth" and the 14th track (unlisted), "Take me out to the Ballgame" is dedicated to Yours Truly for the many hours spent a Wrigley Field during David's youth. We are giving the CD's as gifts to many of our friends, who love jazz piano. Oh, by the way, David Ake is our son and father of our latest grandchild. "In Between" is simple the best.

Dave Ake is a master on the piano. He is a must hear for anyone who appreciates relaxing to a nice clear tone. His style is like no other and is definitely on my number one list.
