DAVID AKE
IN BETWEEN
Announcing the release of "In Between" from David Ake. Recorded during one five-hour session on April 10, 2005, "In Between" marks Ake's first CD devoted entirely to solo piano.
After studies at the University of Miami and California Institute of the Arts, David Ake first garnered attention as a leader and sideman in New York and Los Angeles alongside such creative colleagues as Ralph Alessi, Jeff Ballard, Scott Colley, and Ravi Coltrane. Since making Reno his home in 1999, his work has included a number of live performances and recordings, including three CDs with the Northern Nevada-based quintet, The Collective.
In addition to his work as a performer and composer, Ake holds a Ph.D. in musicology from UCLA, and authored the highly regarded book "Jazz Cultures," as well as numerous essays exploring jazz's ever-evolving meanings and practices. Now a professor in the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Nevada, Reno, David Ake welcomes questions and comments on any and all of these projects.
