Album Notes

David Brewer moved from Oregon to Santa Cruz California in 1990 and started playing traditional music in local sessions at the tender age of 13. His main instrument of interest, Scottish bagpipes, has led him to Scotland on several occasions to study with pipers Hamish Moore, Fred Morrison, Anna Murray, Alan Macdonald, and Rory Campbell. He also plays the whistle, bodhran, mandolin, guitar, uilleann pipes, and several other varieties of bagpipes. David is a prolific writer of tunes some of which are in the live and recorded repertoire of Molly's Revenge.

You've probably noticed that the title of this CD, Living Tradition, can be interpreted in more than one way. The Living Tradition refers to the way that the music David loves continues to pass down from generation to generation and is continuously revised and re-interpreted while still retaining it's essential roots; David is very much a part of keeping that tradition alive.

But more than that, David is living the tradition, literally, through his performing and composing skills. If you've seen David's band, Molly's Revenge, perform live you will know that David puts his heart and soul into every performance. David literally lives every single note he plays. Throughout hundreds of performances, he has never failed to enjoy a tune and that natural exuberance comes through on this recording.

Someone once said that "God does not count the hours spent playing music against a man's life span". If that's true, then David will be living the tradition for a very long time!

David is an incredible musician - and at such a young age, too! His versatility and talent are equally matched by only his Molly's Revenge bandmates! Keep up the great work, boys!
