Album Notes

"I was grinning ear-to-ear the first time I listened to "Walk Without A Shadow"...impressive lyrics, melodies, and arrangements. It only took a second listen for me to start singing each cut, and before I knew it I couldn't get them out of my head! -Jordan Graye WSB Radio/B98.5 FM Atlanta

"Walk Without A Shadow" is a collection of recent songs and old tunes I selected from some twenty years of material - recorded in New York while I was performing in "Beauty and the Beast" on Broadway. Produced and arranged with Steve Lavner of Girl Friday, a NYC-based band, "Walk Without A Shadow" reflects my A.D.D. temperament and reaches across the spectrum of rock, country and folk. I love so many sounds and styles that it's hard to pin me down on what the "genre" is. Special guest Nick Jameson (Foghat, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Butterfield) lends his platinum-record producing skills on "Comin' Back Ain't Comin' Back" along with guitar and bass and Megan Lavner provides backup vocals on "Turn Away". Some of the tracks were recorded alone in my apartment in NYC ("If Only We Could Dance" & "Pretty Pass") but the rest of the New York tracks were recorded out in Jersey in Steve's attic - uh,the Record Plant it was not. We recorded "Montauk Point" the day of the most recent New York Blackout and weren't quite sure that all the files had been saved when the lights went out - yikes! But we sure had an amazing time putting it all together. I wouldn't change a thing! On second thought....

I have spent a lifetime acting and directing and secretly wishing I was a musician instead, so my songwriting really has been in the shadows. A lot of this album is about letting go of shadows and finding a place for all that light to come pouring back in.

I have seen David on the stage in Beauty and the Beats and Wicked what a talent. I always like when they put out a Cd to see the true talent and this is one talented man. Listen to the words on Walk without a Shadow truly wonderful. This man will be big, and by the way I asked him that is his son on the cover. Keep it up David keep entertaining us to the fullest.

I have listened to this CD everyday for the past week and I keep finding different levels. I listen to the words and I feel as if I could have written them or that they were written about experiences that I have been through. Extremely real, extremely raw. You feel the emotions without them being pushed at you, you feel as if you are there. An incredibly diverse music style, from folk to country to soul. A CD that must be in your collection! I look forward to seeing and hearing what the very talented David DeVries surprises us with next! Maybe an updated version of Acknowledge the Fire.
