Album Notes

DayDreamer, the new EP from David Larkin, is ripe with lush grooves that soothe and satisfy the discerning taste of those seeking more sophisticated soundscapes to fill their days and chill-out their nights. This US-based DJ/Producer has cleverly woven the most enchanting elements of House, Broken Beat, Nu Jazz, Lounge, Downtempo and Afro-Brazilian rhythms to create a “tapestry” of soulful and sexy yet driving sonic symphonies.

The DayDreamer EP welcomes the listener into its musical fabric with the smooth thump and haunting chords of a Perfect Storm. Instead of rainfall, David Larkin showers the ears with a rolling and slightly-flanged, spaced-out sound effect, which rhythmically punctuates the warm, riding bassline. Everytime follows suit with an equally energizing bounce that could turn the lounge area into a dancefloor. Sultry and dreamy female vocals guide the melody over a catchy chord progression stitched perfectly to crisp hi-hat and cymbal work, reminiscent of classic house music production. The airy tones of tribal flutes playfully dance alongside the groove, adding that, “taking a journey” feel to the composition. Sparse snares, tribal drums, bellowing synths and warm snares are decorated with an array of Afro-Brazilian percussive instruments making Lounge On It the perfect lounge record. With just the right amount of mellow moodiness mixed with authentic attitude, the listener can easily drift into a zone of aural enchantment. Rounding off the EP is Newgit, a kick and snare driven breakbeat, laced with a funky bass lick and spacey string-synths. Somewhere between Downtempo, Trip-Hop and Chillout, this head-nod inducing track delivers the perfect punch to a listening experience that will rock and relax you.

I already have a copy of this EP directly from David Larkin. I am a DJ and play some of his tracks during my sets. I get a good crowd response whenever I play tracks from David Larkin. I understand he's working on releasing another Urban Lounge Suite album this year as well, can't wait for that one. Keep up the solid production, PEACE!!

This is dope! Where/how can I purchase this album? I was in DC Jan 2007, got a chance to see David Larkin spin @ an Urban Lounge Suite event. This DJ is sick on the turntables. Definitely a must see/hear. I subscribe to his podcast on iTunes as well, check this DJ out.
