Album Notes

For the last dozen years, I have been writing what I call ‘Songs of the New West’. These songs describe my feelings and reactions to a modern western world where many of us feel nudged and jostled by congested, competitive crowds that are like hatchery fish as opposed to native fish—greedy, voracious beings with no instinct for living within the means of their environment, or having a sense of protocol and balance with others in their stream. Solutions to this unbalance? Don’t let your stressed attitude shade out your love and empathy for your fellow creatures, human or otherwise. As Walt Whitman said: ‘Love the Earth and the Sun and the Animals; despise riches’. My own songs are an endeavor to use words and music to convey how I feel inside, and make statements that I feel a need to express. At the same time, there should always be room for humor. So welcome to the world of my own songs-- and also some special songs by: Dave Carter, Will Shakespeare, Bobby Weir and John Perry Barlow; and creative friends like Andrew Ross the King of Filk, Larry Dobberstein the singing videographer, and Bayard McConnaughey the late environmental activist. And above all, I always look for any excuse to keep my classical guitar playing digitally active. Please visit my website www.sasquatchguitar.com, and let me know how you like the songs on this album.
