Album Notes

Moab, Utah musician David Steward has just released a new CD, “Wild West Heart”. It features eleven original country & western songs most of which were co-written with Gary Cox. Songs ranging from barroom ballads to hot Western swing give David a chance to showcase his singing and guitar playing. He also plays most of the other instruments on the album including bass and piano.
David plays in a variety of musical styles. Some of his recent performances include: playing in a jazz duo with trumpeter Gen Numaguchi, singing cowboy music with the Bar-M Wranglers, and playing classical guitar at weddings. He played electric guitar and sang for Texas country artist Stephanie Reeves in performances in the Four Corners area and Texas. He also contributed acoustic guitar to the soundtrack of the History Channel documentary “My Father’s Gun”. He released a CD with the rock & blues band Remnants in 2004.
A few years ago Canyonlands National Park Maze ranger, Gary Cox began writing lyrics in a country & western vein, which David set to music. They explore such classic country themes as relationships (“Bones of Contention”), alienation (“Too Many Buttons”), and redemption (“Branded for Glory”). The title track, “Wild West Heart” is a poignant duet between a father and daughter and features the vocals of Valerie Hunt Brown of the Bar-M Wranglers. Other musicians making guest appearances include Cox on piano and David’s brother, Timothy Steward, on fiddle.
So, check out “Wild West Heart” – country music from the heart of the West.
