David Tomaloff’s music comes across something like the sound of wood and sparks; a unique and ardent blend of Americana, Roots, and Folk Rock loosely reminiscent of such artists as Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, and Joe Henry.

The latest in a life-long line of artful self re-inventions finds singer-songwriter, David Tomaloff, many miles from the smash-and-grab retro-fused rock and roll that put his previous outfit, The Dammitheads, on the independent map. In fact, this most recent musical incarnation finds Tomaloff immersed in a unique and ardent blend of Americana, Roots, and Folk Rock neatly distilled and delivered in the form of his most accomplished and compelling work yet; a ten-song album titled, Birds on Wires. Birds on Wires comes across as a more straight ahead and lyrically centered work than anything Tomaloff has done to date and, while his lyrics are most often delivered in the first person, they are never obviously “personal,” preferring instead to leave the cast of characters free to roam about and gel with the listener.

Birds On Wires

David Tomaloff’s voice on this cd is commanding. His voice is demanding you to hear his words and feel your reaction to the emotion that can be felt in the lyrics and instruments. All of the songs on this cd are individual. None of that sounding like the same tune just different words. As you listen to the cd you will find yourself hearing a different sound or feel to the words no matter how many times you listen to it. There is always something new to be heard. The lyrics put down on paper do not give David’s songs justice. The words when written might loose a novice who would focus on the words and not the feel of the song. Because of the randomness of words used you will be surprised at what the words may actually mean to you when you let yourself listen and feel the song. In my opinion this is one of the best cd’s I have heard in a while. It has everything for the person who knows the difference between what’s popular at the moment and what has soul. This cd definitely has soul and David’s uniqueness.
