David Vidal Performance Review

He slips into a chair on stage, his body language nor dress offering any clues as to what you’re going to get…and then he lays hands on that lap steel guitar of his…and time takes a back seat to sound. His licks start out gentle, but persistent and penetrating as he seamlessly channels grooves from Robert Johnson, cruises through New Mexico, and kicks us through Peru!

The audience is mesmerized, smiling foolishly and tapping feet, nodding heads, and hoping Vidal will personally chat with them between songs (which he usually does).

Vidal’s originals are fraught with simple daily life hurts and rebounds, but his delivery of said prose evokes unspoken feelings as his audience affirms the depth of the emotion he has touched in them. You see it in the way they rock and close their eyes and look triumphant when they come to the other side.

He taps into that old music that lives deep in our souls, but dishes it with a freshness and originality that is at once familiar but “oh, so nuevo cool”. This is man’s music that makes it okay to cry in front of your girlfriend.

here's the original USA - you see the mountains, feel the heat and hear the buzzing insects. Vidals lyrics is intelligent and heartfelt, his voice is perfect for the blues. As a fan who doesn't normally listen to this genre - five tumbs up!

When I was a child I knew an interesting iconoclas, an Oklahoma loner who told stories so quietly, delicately, irreverently through his truth and whiskey flavored breath I couldn't help but be mesmerized. I am convinced this man was on a secret mission from God to make me sit up and take notice of things other folks ignored. Mr. Vidal's music and performance strike a familiar chord which bring up pleasant, mysterious, yet familiar memories for me. If I was 40 years younger I'd hit the road again and see it through this man's eyes. Hell, I might just do it anyway. Here in America, My Favourite Mistake, If I Hadn't Loved You, Devil's in the Details- are my favorite cuts. If you're looking for Celine Dion sound alikes, massively produced stuff with lush strings and million dollar arrangements, keep looking. Perhaps you're not quite prepared for the truth.

Stumbling Onto David Vidal

I stumbled onto David Vidal through myspace, and I'm so happy that I did. Wiffledust has showcased songwriters for over a decade, and the most fun thing has been discovering the incredible talent in our beautiful country. "Americana Blues" has that sparse raw sound that I love found only the work of brave artists who permit us to hear the raw sound of the terrain and the gut wrenching emotions. David's rich voice enhances the depth of the lyrics, and the listener feels you have stumbled upon a truthteller for sure. I'm looking forward to hearing more! Lisa of Wiffledust, Pennsylvania
