This album "There's a Rhythm" is a finalist in the 2012 New Mexcico Music Awards in the "Best Rock Album" category. Finals will be held May 20th. Read the review of this CD at indiemusicreviews.net.
I have performed solo and with many bands over the years for crowds of thousands and my share of virtually empty bars. I have played everywhere from CBGBs and the Boston Common to the Paris metro to get a hotel for the night with my tips. I made teaching music my career and even composed for the Santa Fe Opera. My music has appeared on radio, TV, internet radio, compilation CDs and a compilation LP and written about in newspapers, and now after all that I have finally released my debut solo CD of 13 all original songs titled "There's a Rhythm". I have been writing songs since I was barely a teen without the funds to properly record a CD in professional studios, so the release of this CD really is the realization of a lifetime dream. It was recorded over the course of a full year in the studios of Frogville Records in Santa Fe, New Mexico USA. I perform on the CD on vocals, guitar, bass guitar, percussion, keyboards, flute, and harmonica. It will also feature performances by local legends Stephanie Hatfield, Bill Palmer, Tommy Archuleta, Aron Kalaii, and Hilary Schacht
I challenge myself to create music that appeals to the broadest range of people possible while at the same time contributing new musical ideas. I play rock but I do it my own way, I am turned off by formulas and trends. My style is determined by the mood of each song. The way I see it, I don't go through life just having one mood and one thought so why should I play all my songs with the same style? My musical influences extend far beyond rock music, and I do not try to sound like anyone else. While this creates a lot of diversity in my sound, to me it all comes from an affinity to rock music in all its existing and potential styles. To appeal to non-musicians and seasoned composers alike, I commonly employ simple rhythms and forms along with more original and complex harmonies, chord patterns and instrumentation. My main focus for making music to appeal to a broad audience though is of course the melodies. This is all-purpose music, intended for singing along, dancing and active listening all at once. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Coolest Music, Innovative and Eclectic Songwriting, An Indie Rock Master
author: Michael Clay Mills

In a musical landscape littered with predictable alt. country/folk (whatever THAT means)/singer-songwriter boredom, David Wheeler stands out as a master songwriter and innovator. The eclectic reach of this CD does not rob it of a unifying feel, for the CD is one that you can put in your car for an hour drive and it takes you on a journey. Wheelers' fresh approach to the indie rock genre makes this recording one of the best indy releases of the year, and it is hard to find a band or sound to compare it to. Hailing from Santa Fe, New Mexico, Wheeler is sure to make a major impact on the local scene and beyond.

Reminds me of the Grateful Dead
author: Randy Stahla

Excellent music for rock lovers - reminds me of the Grateful Dead - raw instruments, natural sounds, in-your-face guitar riffs and drumming, nice vocal arrangements and use of stringed instruments.
