author: David DeBoor Canfield
This CD contains 5 very different, but all tonal works. Each is well written, and I especially enjoyed the Williams and Schulhoff works. Both saxophonist and pianist are first rate performers, and the CD is worth repeated hearings.

A musical work of art
author: Sean Coughlin
“At Dawning” is an extremely ambitious endeavor that showcases David Wright’s best qualities as a saxophonist and musician: maturity, lyricism, complete control of his instrument, and a full rich tone that sings in all registers. The subtleties on this CD truly make it stand apart from other classical saxophone albums I have heard, with the quality of the audio being a large element. The impressive sound engineering gave David Wright an opportunity to express both his sensitivity and his flawless technique. Real treats on this album include the David Williams Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano, and Christopher Tilly’s “Lament.” Throughout the album, Steven Harlos perfectly matches David Wright’s musicality and sets a standard for other accompanists to rise to. The only disappointment to this CD was that it did not include David’s fabulous tenor saxophone playing. Hopefully there are plans in the works so we can all enjoy more of David’s playing and more of the wonderful works that composers have written for him.
