Blake was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2002 and underwent intensive chemotherapy and radiation in Kelowna, BC. The treatment was initially deemed a success but in July of 2004, the cancer returned and he was officially a "terminal case". It was time to get busy. The project began with the audio recording of a number of previously unpublished works at the studio of his friend and collaborator Jude. These works were originally created and presented as oral stories. At the beginning of the project the creation of a spoken word archive was as far as things were going to go. This quickly changed as Jude began to create music for the pieces.
