DA VOLUNTEERS featuring V-SQUAD: Da Bandwagon
Biography
In 2002, Da Volunteers dropped their first album, Da Game. In 2004, they dropped their sophomore album, Gunz and Rozes. To date, more than 50,000 copies of both albums have been sold. But it doesn’t stop there. Already the hottest rap group in Memphis, TN, Da Volunteers (J.Rock and Noon), collaborated with two new artists, Kilo and C-Bird, to form V-Squad. Recently signed with 8 Ways Entertainment / M.J.G. Muzik, Da Volunteers continue on the road to success.
On December 7, 2005, Da Volunteers featuring V-Squad dropped Da Bandwagon mixtape. This mixtape features some of the hottest artists in the industry including M.J.G., Dirty South Ridas and others. Da Bandwagon presents listeners with 21 songs with rhythmic and catchy tunes which will no doubt make people want to put it in their CD player, crank the volume and listen to it repeatedly. The mixtape is opened with an introduction by none other than M.J.G. himself. On “M.J.G. Real Talk”, he delivers the message to listeners that, “Da Volunteers are officially signed with M.J.G. Muzik.
The original production on tracks like Favorite Color, Watcha Watchin Me 4, and G-Walk cannot be ignored though, because there is some shit that is just too good not to mention. While there is some original production on this mixtape, there are mostly slick vocals, classic beats and samples such as “Stay Fly” and “Late Night Tip” by 3-6 Mafia, and “Dreams” by The Game. ” Songs like “We Da Truth” and “Strawberry 22’s”, produced by J.Rock, stands out on the mixtape and gets the listener pumped. Another great song, “Dreams”, takes the listener on a meaningful journey as their storytelling lyrics describe their life, the way things really are and the pain that is present within.
Overall, Da Bandwagon mixtape will appeal to Da Volunteers’ existing fans and is bound to bring in a number of new ones. Each track achieves something different; each has its own style, which makes it an interesting listen. After listening to any of the tracks, you will still be repeating the chorus in your mind. Most of the familiar beats and hooks will sell this mixtape, but the true heads listen for the rhymes.
This is not a good mixtape, “It’s a GREAT mixtape”. Da Volunteers featuring V-Squad’s flow and wordplay is something to behold. They’re best at spitting clever shit that will go over 99% of listeners’ heads. They have the tools they need for giving people want they want to hear - great breath control, clever wordplay, and a commanding presence that makes you want to listen. If you’re looking for music with great sound and lyrics that is full of innovation, hustle and ambition, stop looking, THIS IS IT. Da Bandwagon reinforces why Da Volunteers have proved to be popular in the past and why they will be around in the future.
